Melodies are the tunes we remember from a piece of music. HARMONY th 20 Harmony in the century music is often experimental and dissonant. Harmony is the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce chords and chord progressions having a pleasing effect. TEXTURE Polyphonic texture are often used and music such as impressionism or aleatory music experiment with new textures using layers or different sounds. Monophonic texture has only one melodic line, with no harmony or counterpoint. Polyphonic texture, if more than one independent melody is occurring at the same time. Homophonic texture has one clear melodic line and the other parts provide accompaniment. TONE COLOR The tone color plays a major element of the music during the th 20 century as it often creates variation, progression, and mood. Individual tone color is clearly heard. Tone color also known as the timbre which refers to the quality of sound. Timbre distinguishes different types of sound production, such as choir voices and musical instruments, such as string instruments, wind instruments, and percussion instruments.
