OBJECTIVE: To make fans/readers feel like they were right there in the middle of
the action, cheering on their favorite team, game after game. The sports writer is
expected to provide a complete and accurate picture of events.
HOW TO WRITE IT?
HEADLINE/TITLE – They must be short and accurate. In sports, headlines are also
lively grabbers of a reader's attention.
LEAD – It summarizes or analyzes the event by giving the significance, the winner,
the hero, the score, the place and time or date when the event happens.
BODY – It contains the play-by-play account of the game like the most crucial part
of the game, star player and etc.
CONCLUSION – It contains the quotes from players and coaches, statistics and team
standing.

THE BODY

However, the writer must not neglect the top scorer of the day.

Quotation – It is customary for the hero of the day to have his sentiments recorded
for posterity.

of the ring.
“Faith carried us through this game, it’s a good game,” said Gonzales after the game.
