Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION IV-A CALABARZON SCHOOLS DIVISION OF LIPA CITY PINAGKAWITAN INTEGRATED NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Pinagkawitan, Lipa City Accomplishment Report Project LINKS Over the years, the Department of Education remained persistent in its effort to establish and maintain a complete, adequate and integrative educational system that is responsive to both national and global trends. Despite the seemingly inevitable constraints and challenges hindering its program implementation, its pursuit of crafting strategies to mitigate the impact of such hindrances is quite imminent, With the department’s fundamental desire to cope up with learning difficulties and eradicate learning gaps among Filipino learners, various teaching – learning innovations and interventions gradually become a necessity. Thus, the provision and utilization of competency-based supplemental learning materials was recommended to almost all academic institutions nationwide. Pinagkawitan Integrated National High School’s (PINHS) commitment to maximize the attainment of Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) specifically in Science seemed quite remarkable. Thru the initiative of Science Department, headed by Mr. Jay Ar Z Gutierrez, the adoption of Project LINKS was made possible and worth adapting. Although, the initial tasks appeared tedious and time consuming, it gained optimum support from the entire Science mentors after having series and thorough discussion of the positive implications of the said learning intervention to the learners. As a standardized practice , learners who encounterd difficulties and manifested unsatisfactory performance based on the assessments given were identified in each grade level. In the first quarter, the utilization of the activities under the said project was done on November 7 – 11, 2022, the second quarter on February 13 – 17, 2023 and the third quarter on may 2 – 5, 2023. Ideally, the passion to maximize learning entails variety of techniques/practices that are basically anchored on the learners’ needs and potential. Thus, using the previously determined least masterd competency as the primary basis, intervention activities which included remediation, enrichment and reinforcement exercises were crafted from the abovementioned supplemental learning materials. Furthermore, the reinforcement activities were given for the purpose of teaching and honing new skills and nurturing knowledge pertinent to the desired learning outcomes. The summary of the details of the implentation of the said project is presented in the table below. Based on the data presented in the submitted tools, it can be concluded that the provision of intervention activities to the learners thru project LINKS was indeed a substantial practice that definitely augmented learners capabilities in understanding the lesson. Furthermore, such interventions, whether intended for remediation, enrichment or reinforcement, apparently stimulated learners’ interest in attaining the Most Essential Learning Competencies as mandated in DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan. Thus, the utilization and subsequent implementation of Project LINKS was deemed essential in alleviating learning difficulties specifically in Science.
