It was very successful in all fields, from military to agriculture, trade, and even Roman literature and architecture. They had a few weak points, nonetheless, which led to the fall of this magnificent empire. This report will discuss several relevant events, consequences, and reasons that demolished this empire. Things like wars, corruption, and economy are going to be our focus for this report. First, what is an empire, "an empire is a group of countries or states that are controlled by one ruler or government" (empire noun - Definition, pictures, pronunciation, and usage notes | Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary at OxfordLearnersDictionaries.com, no date). Let's discuss one of the most important empires that have ever existed. The Roman empire started as a republican city-state in Rome. Then it began to expand and became an empire. The Roman empire lasted for about 400 years. It had covered nearly the entirety of western and middle Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and even southern Britain, at its highest. The sheer size might be massive, but this might be a curse rather than a blessing (Lee, 2014). This great power comes with significant lapses. Which led to the fall of this empire, the first of which was unnecessary over-expansionist conquests. One of these conquests was The Farahat 2 Parthian War, which was a war initiated by the Roman emperor at the time against the Parthians (modern-day north-eastern Iran). He engaged in this war because he wanted to conquer Armenia. However, he had a few Jewish rebellions along the way, which made him retrieve his troops from the region and lose Armenia (Land, 2018). Also, the emerge of political corruption, which was the second reason, didn't help either. For example, the emperors' guards could assassinate and replace anyone at well (Andrews, 2019). Due to all the wars and army spending, the economy began to weaken. The weakness of the economy and the vastness of land led the Roman empire to have civil wars between different leaders, all of whom seizing the throne. These wars resulted in division and then reunion of the empire. However, the emperor divided it into two administrative halves, western and eastern, the former ended soon after, and the latter became the Byzantine empire (Mark, 2018). In conclusion, the Roman empire was a great empire that is worth studying. But it had a few weak points like the lack of control over the enormous empire, unneeded conquests, political corruption. As for everything in the world, everything has an end! Farahat 3 Reference list Andrews, E., 2019. 8 Reasons Why Rome Fell - HISTORY. [online] History.com.
