that studies communication across different
cultures and social groups, or how culture
affects communication. It describes the wide
range of communication processes and
problems that naturally appear within an
organization or social context made up of
individuals from different religious, social,
ethnic, and educational backgrounds.The
goal is mutual adaptation between two or
more distinct cultures which leads to
biculturalism/multiculturalism rather than
complete assimilation. It promotes the
development of cultural sensitivity and allows
for empathic understanding across different

Stereotype (from other Greek στερεός "solid" + τύπος
"imprint") is a person's pre-formed mental assessment of
something, which can be reflected in stereotypical behavior.
Richard Brislin defines stereotypes as "general ideas
about a group based on private observations and then
extended to all its members."
Steiner defines stereotypes as "ideas, beliefs and
expectations that people have about other cultures and
peoples.
