What You Will Contribute: Badger Meter is looking for a third shift (10:30pm-7:00am) Plastic Injection Molding Process/Set Up Technician in our clean and air-conditioned facility. Badger Meter offers 3 weeks paid vacation, 11 company paid holidays, and a guaranteed wage increase to $34.58 in November. We are willing to assist with relocation for the right candidate. This position is responsible to set-up, adjust and prepare plastic injection molding machines for the purpose of achieving optimum production of molded thermo-plastic parts and components. This may involve the set-up of molds, auxiliary equipment and secondary operation machines. Possesses good communication skills and is able to work in a team environment utilizing lean manufacturing concepts and principles. Responsible for observing safe work habits and maintaining cleanliness of work area. Proceeds alone under normal production circumstances. Takes work direction from department manager or lead person. Work subject to process and final inspection in accordance with Badger Meter’s quality management system. May be assigned to work in other departments or perform other duties (including tending and operating molding machines) as instructed by management. Major Job Duties/Accountability: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Installs molds/dies into injection molding machines according to the production schedule to satisfy production needs and tool development needs Set up procedures may include the following: Connecting hoses, die heaters, loading of proper raw material or checking the pellet mix against code number to verify use of a virgin material, regrind mix or color composition mix Set machine process parameters according to established "ISO Setup" documented processes Set process controllers according to prescribed process specifications which may include setting cylinder temperature, activate water cooling systems and set mold temperature Regulate first and second stage pressure and cycle time, set back pressure and adjust mold opening and closing time Change out machine barrel nozzles and tips as needed. Purge machine of all old material and run test. Responsible for setup of secondary processes and equipment such as degating and drilling operations. Use and setup required measuring fixtures on coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to measure parts on inspection programs as required Perform any required process changes that deviate from specified parameters within the current engineering/ management limitations to ensure acceptable dimensions and appearance ● ● ● ● ● Inspect test part to blueprint specifications and make all necessary adjustments to correct any problems before production run Service molding machines by cleaning dies, clearing sprues, freeing stuck parts and loading material hoppers Follow machine shut down procedures as specified which may include the following; close hopper throat valve, turn off heating and cooling systems, retract carriage and purge machine and ensure machines and areas around them are clean and free of all debris (resin pellets, molded parts, water, oil, etc.) after each setup is completed Set up and operate tool tryouts to support engineering development when required by management. Utilize production inventory management systems to perform production reporting and part information inquires such as material locations or bill of materials Qualifications: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● 4+ years of experience in plastic injection molding set up/process preferred High School Degree preferred Journeyman or Master Moldmaker certification preferred Basic computer skills Must have a good understanding of machine adjustments Preferred knowledge of how to use precision gauges such as verniers, scales, comparators and pyrometers Ability to diagnose machine or tool malfunctions or conditions which lead to incorrect dimensions or defective parts Ability to pass internal forklift and hazmat training if applicable Ability to work independently with little supervision Maintains open communication and positive working relationships with staff Ability to read, write and speak English
