BACKYARD FARMING DEODORIZE DISINFECTANT CHAPTER I Introduction The domestication of pigs began around 4900 B.C., and they have since been utilized extensively in the production of food for human consumption. It is clear that pigs and pork serve a crucial role in providing people with highquality protein because pork consumption outpaces that of all other meat products worldwide. In regions of the world with easy availability to cereals and sources of protein, the pig business is still thriving. Pigs can adapt to many environmental circumstances, as seen by the numerous breeds that exist around the world. Pig farming is a subset of animal husbandry and is defined as the breeding and rearing of domestic pigs as livestock. Pigs are grown primarily for their skins and for food (such as pork, bacon, and gammon). Swine or hog farming are other names for pig farming. Southeast Asia is where the Philippines are situated. For many years, pig farming has been a successful business for Filipinos in the Philippines. In the backyards of rural families, it can be seen how popular it is. Philippines ranks as the eighth-largest producer, seventh-largest importer, and tenth-largest consumer of pork worldwide. According to (Uk-Hyeon Yeo et al., 2020) With the rise in livestock production, the odor concentration emitted from livestock facilities has significantly increased. For this reason, odor complaints have become a major issue. The dispersion of the odor into the atmosphere is affected by various factors (wind speed, wind direction, atmospheric stability, terrain condition, ventilation type, and so on). This problem not only occur in certain country, but also in the world including Philippines. Background of the Study Statement of the Problem Lindsay Abrams stated that “It may start out as a faint stench, but can grow to an odor so overpowering that you can no longer spend time outside for work or pleasure. Some families plagued by nearby hog farms have reported fumes so strong that merely trying to walk outside and get in their cars causes them to double-over retching uncontrollably.” In the U.S., the pig farming industry is concentrated in North Carolina. The state has a concurrent public health crisis: the toxins released by the facilities have known consequences for human health and the environment. In the interest of fully examining the farms' impact, researchers at UNC Chapel Hill's School of Public Health hypothesized that the stench emanating from hog farms could itself be harming neighboring residents. In 2019, The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in Central Visayas on Thursday said it has ordered a piggery farm in Pinamungajan, Cebu to pay a fine of PHP150,000 for spreading foul odor in the neighborhood and discharging wastewater to a nearby river. This problems in swine production that spreading foul odor, not only affect the person who smell it, but also to the farm owners. So, the researcher will create deodorize disinfectant to reduce the swine farming odor using substance that help lessen the odor of swine production. Significance of the Study The significance of the study is to help reduce the bad odor of swine production. With the used of disinfectant, it can decrease odor pollutants that can affect health to the person who inhale it and swine farmers for their income. General Objective The researcher’s objective is to create deodorize disinfectant for swine farm. Specific Objectives: 1. To create deodorize disinfectant using vinegar, salt etc. 2. To reduce bad odor of piggery farm that can cause health problems. 3. To lower the farmers who pays for foul smell of their swine farms.
