10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
THE FUTURE OF COPYWRITING
Copywriting isn’t ever going to disappear. Nearly every product in
the world is utilizing some form of copy to increase sales. There will
always be product descriptions, emails, and captions that need to be
written by an expert.
The art of communicating on a human level through a screen is highly
valuable. Companies are willing to pay big bucks to truly communicate
with their customers, and amazing copy can make more of an impact
than almost anything else.
In the future, there will be AI copywriting tools but nothing will ever
be able to replace a true insightful copywriting expert. Copywriters
will always be needed in some form or another.

COLD
OUTREACH

15
>> COLD OUTREACH
www.getwsodo.com
www.getwsodo.com
10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
WHAT IS COLD OUTREACH?
• Cold outreach is a 1-on-1 lead generation technique that stands the test
of time.
• Typical clients are B2B companies with large deal sizes (meaning each
client they take pays them $5,000 or more).
• Fill the top of their sales funnel with qualified sales appointments (book
calls on your clients’ behalf with people that would likely make great
clients for them).
• You do this by 1) creating a list of leads 2) sending personalized 1-on-1
email and/or LinkedIn message campaigns 3) booking appointments for
your client via their calendar/call-setting app.
PROS
+ Easy & cheap to get started.
+ HIGH VALUE skill.
+ Easy to sell for $2K+/month per
client…even $5K+/month per
client.
+ High margins: typically 50-80%.
+ Many competitive advantages
waiting to be discovered/found.
+ Most cold outreach agencies
are horrible at what they do.
Room for many new freelancers/
agencies to come in, kill it, and
make a killing.
CONS
+ Lots of A/B testing.
+ You can’t just copy templates and
be successful.
+ You need to be original to have
long-term success.

10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
DEAL TYPES
SETUP FEE
Charge your new clients $1K-$5K upfront so you can onboard them, buy lead
lists, craft emails, buy their domains, subscribe to software, etc.
+ Always charge a setup fee if possible, no matter what kind of deal type you
choose
RETAINER
Charge a monthly fee that doesn’t change based on results. Ex: You charge
a client $3K/mo. and guarantee 10 appointments. I don’t recommend this
because it caps upside and puts unnecessary pressure on you. I recommend
the per-appointment model or a combo.
PER-APPOINTMENT
Charge per qualified sales appointment you set up for your client…$200-500
per appointment is a good range.
PER-CLOSE
Charge per appointment you set up that your client CLOSES… $1K-$5K per
close is a good range.
REVENUE SHARE
Client pays you a percentage of revenue from clients you help bring in.
Typical range is 5% to 50%, and anywhere in-between depending on deal
size, leverage you have, your negotiating skills, etc.
EQUITY
Every time you hit a specific KPI (X appointments set, Y new clients closed), you
get a piece of equity. Highly recommend doing this if you can, and combining
it with a lower per-appointment or retainer fee.
COMBO
Combine per-appointment with rev share, or retainer with per close, or
per-appointment with per-close, etc.

THE FUTURE OF SEO
SEO won’t be going away for a WHILE.
Users keep performing searches, SEO will still be a great way to drive traffic.
As for SEO strategy: Google is getting better at identifying and penalizing
websites with sketchy SEO tactics.
Keep your link-building and keyword targeting clean, publish high quality
content, focus on user experience, and you’ll rank just fine regardless of
what algorithm updates Google rolls out.
SEO is a great skill to learn, because it’s going to be viable for decades to
come.

10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
WHAT ARE FACEBOOK ADS?
• FB ads are the sponsored posts/ads you see on Facebook and Instagram.
• Used by businesses, brands, influencers to sell their products/services.
• Able to scale offers in the marketplace most rapidly, compared to other ad
platforms.
• You can make a lot of money while spending a little… big ROAS (return on
ad spend).
PROS
+ Super well-targeted.
+ Ads manager is easy to navigate.
+ Low cost, high return if your offer
is right.
+ Super easy to learn: lots of
courses, classes, YouTube videos,
trainings, books, etc.
+ Almost 3 billion FB users (as
of 2021), so there aren’t many
people you CAN’T reach.
+ Robust ad creative choices: you
can do text, video, or image posts,
carousels, instant experiences,
gifs, collections and more.
+ Robust retargeting capabilities (hit
people you’ve already advertised
to or have seen your offer/content
with your ads).
+ Integrate easily with Instagram.
Access to Instagram as well with
pretty much the same ads.

10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
CONS
+ Facebook doesn’t let just
ANYTHING through. You’re limited
by what you’re allowed to say
+ If you’re not spending enough, FB
doesn’t care about you and won’t
reply to your messages/calls
+ FB sometimes randomly/
mistakenly bans/disables accounts
+ Because of iOS 14, Facebook’s
tracking isn’t as effective as it used
to be
DEAL TYPES
SETUP FEE
Only for clients who aren’t running FB Ads yet. Charge them $1K-5K
upfront so you can onboard them, set up their Business Manager, pixel,
CAPI, etc.
+ Always charge a setup fee if possible, no matter what kind of deal type you
choose
RETAINER
Charge a monthly fee that doesn’t change based on results. Ex: you
charge a client $3K/mo to manage their ads. Not recommended because
it caps what you can earn. You can make someone $100K+/month and
only earn $3K from it.

PERCENTAGE OF AD SPEND

20% of ad spend and they spend $10,000 in a month, you’ll make $2,000.

Combine retainer with share of ad spend.
EQUITY
You could negotiate to get equity with some companies. Every time you
hit a specific KPI (X revenue made, Y new customers brought in), you get
a piece of equity. Highly recommend doing this if you can (with a low

THE FUTURE OF FACEBOOK ADS
The future of FB Ads is a bit up in the air. There’s a war going on
between Apple and Facebook. Apple made it so users can opt out of
being tracked, and that messed with Facebook’s ad tracking/targeting
system.
Instead of interest-based ads, users are now receiving mostly actionbased ads which are based on what a user talks about/clicks on/posts
JUST directly on Facebook. Before, it was based on a users interests
ALL OVER the internet. Now they can track just on Facebook.
Facebook makes changes on a whim without warning which have
big effect on the marketplace. But… it’s a huge company and relies
on ads for it’s profits so it won’t do anything in the near future to
compromise it’s ad platform. It’ll also push its weight around to fight
to keep making their profit.

• Ads you see while watching YouTube. They can appear before, during, and

• In addition, the ads can appear as suggestions in search results and on

PROS

+ Many competitive advantages

+ Possible to do rev share with big

share or combo.
REVENUE SHARE
Charge for performance by taking 5% to 30% of the revenue earned from
your clients’ YouTube ads.
COMBO
Charge a combination of a retainer and rev share. Since you’re doing a combo,
most likely your retainer won’t be very high and rev share will be a bit lower
than if you’re just doing a rev share.

WHAT IS EMAIL MARKETING?
• Sending personalized emails at scale to customers on behalf of businesses/
influencers in order to build deep relationships & sell products/services.
• A landing page/sign-up form is used to collect prospect emails.
• Nurturing your prospects and converting them from a warm lead to a longterm repeat customer that buys over and over.
• Do this by creating email automations, campaigns, and testing/refining/
optimizing over time.
PROS
+ Easy to learn and execute.
+ High value skill.
+ Predictable revenue month to
month, easy to charge $2K+
monthly retainers. $6-$10K+/mo
once established.
+ Big opportunity to add lots of value:
most businesses don’t have email
lists and/or aren’t using them well.
You can provide a huge revenue
increase for a business and take a
fat percentage.
+ Not rocket science. Write emails,
setup flows, A/B test/optimize, get
paid.
+ More stable than something like

more control than public platforms.

DEAL TYPES
ONE-TIME AUTOMATION SETUP
This is when you create automations. Automations are fixed sequences
which are triggered whenever an action is performed. For example,
Welcome sequence, abandoned cart sequence, post-purchase sequence,
etc. You set them up once, and they run whenever the action is triggered.
You can charge a one-time fee of $3K-$4K for setting up 3-5 automations.
RETAINER
Charge your clients a flat monthly fee that doesn’t change based on
performance. Typically $2K-$8K. Includes setting up automation, running
campaigns, A/B testing, optimizing, etc.
PER-EMAIL
Charge for every email you write (usually $100-$400+ per email)
PER-LAUNCH
Hook up with a client for a product launch and charge them a flat fee or
revenue share of the sales you bring in for that launch.
REVENUE SHARE
Charge your client nothing upfront, take a percentage of the sales you bring
in. You handle everything. Setting up automation, running campaigns,
A/B testing, optimizing, etc. Typical rev share is 5-15%.
COMBO
Combine a lower retainer and lower percentage of rev share. Always try
to get a percentage of rev share if you’re bringing in lots of revenue for
your client(s). This is a good way to dip your toes with a client that might
be apprehensive.

WHAT IS SMS MARKETING?
• Selling a DTC/B2C product en masse via text message
• Similar to email marketing, but a lot more personal
• Sending 6-8 text messages a month per brand/influencer is the sweet spot
• Used for retention (to get customers to buy more of your products) and
managing relationships with your customers
PROS
+ Easy way to get a sale for brands:
low effort.
+ More engaging than email & super
high open (usually around 98-99%),
reply, and clickthrough rates.
+ Not many people who specialize in
SMS marketing… your competition
is email marketers, which means
it’s easier to stand out in the market
& make a big splash.
+ Per customer you generate a
lot more money than with email
marketing.
+ Can take a few hours to craft a
great email (design, copy etc).
Text message will take you 5-10
minutes.

>> SMS MARKETING
www.getwsodo.com
www.getwsodo.com
10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
CONS
+ Many brands don’t collect phone numbers yet (in 2021). If a brand doesn’t
have many phone numbers, you won’t make many sales, so the brand won’t
pay you much.
+ More expensive to run SMS marketing than email marketing, because you’re
paying per text message per person.
+ Many brands do SMS in-house because they think it’s super easy. It is easy
to do a mediocre job. Not if you want to do it really well, so you might have
to convince some prospects that it’s worth it to hire a specialist.
+ Easy to annoy subscribers if you send more than 3 messages to a customer
in a week.
HOW TO KNOW IF SMS MARKETING IS A
GOOD FIT FOR YOU
+ You’re personable & charismatic (managing client relationships &
how to talk to subscribers)
+ You’re a good copywriter
+ You’re a good communicator
+ You know the psychology of young people (Gen Z, Millennials etc)
+ You’re analytical, critical thinking, and have high attention to detail

DEAL TYPES
RETAINER
This is the most popular deal type. Charge a monthly fee that doesn’t
change based on results. For example, you charge a client $3K/month
flat.
REVENUE SHARE
Client pays you a percentage of revenue from sales you make via SMS.
Typical range is 5%-20%, and anywhere in-between depending on your
client’s monthly revenue, leverage you have, your negotiating skills, etc.
This deal is a bit more challenging to get than retainers. You need to
differentiate yourself because there are lots of agencies that do SMS
marketing for cheap.
DECREASING TIERED REVENUE SHARE
As your client makes more money, you make a lower percentage of
revenue. For example, you make your client $100K/month, you make
10% rev share. If you hit $200K/month, everything from $100K-200K,
you get 5%.
INCREASING TIERED REVENUE SHARE
As your client makes more money, you make a higher percentage of
revenue. For example, you make your client $100K/month, you make
10% rev share. If you hit $200K/month, everything from $100K-200K,
you get 15%.
EQUITY
Get in with a brand early, run their SMS marketing. Every time you hit
a specific KPI (X total revenue or Y average monthly revenue), you get a
piece of equity. Highly recommend doing this if you can, and combining
it with rev share.

BONUS TIP: To find prospects: go to brand sites in your niche. If they don’t
have an SMS pop-up, offer to set one up. It’ll take you an hour or two and
they’ll see results right away. Easy to get your foot in the door with a big
brand right away like this.
THE FUTURE OF SMS MARKETING
Currently going through exponential growth as more & more brands
discover the power of SMS marketing. Brands are figuring out new
ways to grow their SMS lists, which leads to more revenue.
SMS marketing has the potential to be bigger than email. People are
always on their phones. Huge open rates, more money per customer.
It’ll get more regulated by the government. Bit of concern Apple/
Android might have a “promotions” tab for text messages in the
future.
Social selling is a powerful way to sell, and you can’t really do it via
email. With SMS, it’s incredibly easy.

10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
WHAT IS WEB DESIGN?
• Taking the mental framework of a business and putting it online for everyone
to access through their phone, computer, or tablet. You are designing and
building the online space, or digital billboard of that company.
• No matter how you describe it, the website itself is being designed to funnel
more customers onto an email list, into a service subscription, or into
purchasing a product or service.
• Basically, web design is building websites to help businesses sell or offer
something online.
PROS
+ Many different niches you can get
into.
+ Small-ish learning curve. Start
getting clients quick.
+ Only need 1-3 case studies/
example sites to start getting highticket clients.
+ Many upsells can be made to your
clients (conversion optimization,
load speed optimization,
maintenance).
+ Horizontal growth is easy to
kickstart (branding/social media
CRO, funnel-building, link-building,
sales, SEO).
+ Big opportunity to build a
personal brand around web
design and get lots of leads from
it.
+ Industry is just speeding up as
everything’s going digital.

www.getwsodo.com
10 SKILLS GUIDEBOOK
CONS
+ Usually lower client LTV (lifetime value) than other skills you can charge for
on an ongoing basis.
+ Web maintenance fee is only around $100/month max.
+ Hard to quantify your offer in monetary terms (will be harder to get clients
with cold outreach).
+ Clients won’t need a new website for 5-10 years, so you always need to get
new clients or grow horizontally.
+ Relatively intense, communication-heavy fulfillment with many moving
parts.
+ Highly time intensive and clients won’t always like designs.
HOW TO KNOW IF WEB DESIGN IS A GOOD
FIT FOR YOU
+ You’re creative
+ You like to build websites
+ You’re a good communicator & have high attention to detail
+ You have high work ethic (fast-paced projects, quick turnarounds)
+ You’re resourceful (finding images, building a team to scale past
$10K/month)

THE FUTURE OF INFLUENCER MARKETING
The future of Influencer Marketing is leaning towards TikTok and
other democratized video platforms. Unlike every other platform like
Instagram, TikTok lets users under 10k followers to get millions of
views on viral videos, and to achieve crazy growth in shorter periods
of time than any other platform.
In no other industry can a creator create a 10 second video about
a $20 product that costs your client $5, get millions of views and
generate $10K+.
Influencers are only getting more powerful & influential. Brands
are just now getting hip to this. If you’re an E-Com brand not using
influencer marketing now and creating a plan for the future, you
won’t survive.
You can bank on Influencer Marketing to keep growing and growing
