Assignment: Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist as a narrative of protest
Fo’s criticism of the bourgeoisie state in Italy in his satire caters to not just the terrorist
bombings and the subsequent disinformation, but on a larger scale, to the very
atmosphere from which the seeds germinated. His works explore the power relations ,
between the sovereign and the subject. In the play, he makes the use of the archetypal
comic figure, as a ‘histriomaniac’, so as to critique the authorities that misuse their
position to spread controinformazione (counter-information).
