Assume that you were given the assignment to recommend a materials control program suitable
for Acme Neon Company.
1. What policies and procedures would you suggest to improve the purchasing system?
For an organization to be more profitable, it is important that it keep the cost of
procurement low since it needs to purchase several goods and services from different
suppliers. The tactical and strategic goals of an organization are achieved with the help of
a proper procurement process. And for the process to be proper, it is essential that
improvements are made from time to time after evaluating the efficacy of current
processes. Improving procurement efficiency and effectiveness is a continuous process,
there is no such thing as the perfect procurement process. In optimizing your supply chain,
and managing supplier relationships, you will keep finding areas that can be improved.
The procurement of goods and services constitutes a large portion of a business
revenue, which directly impacts the organization's objective of reducing expenditures.
Effective procurement systems are essential for enhancing the bottom line. If you can
identify the areas that can be improved. You will find collecting the information very
difficult if you have the data spread all over the place. Therefore, you need a centralized
system to collect the data.
2. What changes would you recommend regarding the storage of the material, and why?
I would recommend is to enhance sustainability by managing waste, water, and
energy more efficiently are core components of sustainability. Improving our
organization’s sustainability can boost our corporate image, attract quality tenants to our
properties and positively engage employees. Having clear measurable goals gives teams a
shared understanding of what they're working to accomplish and how they're progressing.
Look at our tracking data to establish a benchmark and inform our goal setting. Setting our
goals helps us prioritize activities for preventing waste and expanding recycling programs.
Then track progress towards the goals using our benchmark.
To identify specific activities that may most effectively lead you to reaching your
goals, conduct a waste assessment. The information collected will help you pinpoint the
waste reduction areas on which to focus. For assistance with conducting a waste
assessment, contact your local recycling office or waste hauler. Some local governments
and waste haulers offer free waste audits to businesses.
3. What improvements would you recommend in inventory control?
Even if we think we’ve got a good system for inventory management, a few tweaks
could take our process and profits to a higher level. Even with the best inventory
management techniques in place, we won't be able to eliminate every problem we face in
the workplace in the coming year, but we will smooth out the rough spots.
I would recommend that we need to choose the right inventory management
software inventory management software will help us keep up with our stock without
losing our head. There are a number of good programs available. If I will run a very small
business, a free program might work for me. If I have a bit more inventory to manage, I’ll
probably want to pay for a more sophisticated inventory management app. That's why any
new system that tracks inventory needs to be thoroughly tested before it is adopted. That
said, if the software seems intuitive and easy to learn, give it bonus points.
4. How would you reduce the scrap from production?
There is a lot of way to reduce the scrap from production. We need to minimize
human error because damage to parts can occur during transit or whenever manual handling
occurs, so it's a good idea to use automation to limit physical contact with parts as much as
possible particularly delicate parts that will be damaged if dropped. Better training reduces
the chances of human error; well-trained teams are more likely to use software applications
correctly and will not have to go through as many trial and error stages.
Improve change management and communication Scrap is often the outcome of
poor or incomplete communication about production changes. A change in a part that is
made by the engineering team to improve the overall product should be communicated
both internally and throughout the supply chain quickly and clearly. By failing to do so,
the company may end up with a stockpile of old parts that may be non-cancelable, nonreturnable, and have to be thrown away as scrap.
5. Suggest an adequate, yet economical and practical, cost reporting system.
Management and other participants in the construction process gain invaluable
tools for project control and record keeping during the execution of a project. In addition
to recording financial transactions, these tools provide managers with a glimpse into the
progress and problems of projects. Project management problems are aptly summarized by
an old definition of a project as any collection of divergent, vaguely related tasks that are
ninety percent complete, over budget, and late. The past cost and revenue incurred in a
project is not sufficient for project management and control purposes. Good managers
should focus upon future revenues, future costs, and technical problems. Business leaders
can use management reporting to make more accurate and data-driven decisions with the
help of business intelligence.
