PILOT TESTING FILIPINO 9
Week 4
S.Y. 2021-2022
NARRATIVE REPORT IN THE CONDUCT OF PILOT TESTING OF SUPPLEMENTARY
READING MATERIALS FOR READING INSTRUCTION AND INTERVENTION
Reading intervention is a program, supplementary to an existing literacy curriculum,
that is provided to students for the primary purpose of increasing reading levels. Such
programs can be administered both in and out of the traditional classroom environment to
boost the development of reading and literacy skills of non-readers.
Malalinta National High School was chosen by the Schools Division of Isabela to
conduct the pilot testing
of Supplementary Materials for Reading Instruction and
Intervention in Grade 9 Filipino for the frustration readers.
Thus the Filipino teacher, Maricel P. Dulay identified and contacted the 6 male
frustration readers or who had reading difficulties through messenger, and phone calls with
the help of the Grade 9 advisers. She conducted the pilot testing in Grade 9 Filipino on March
7 & 8, 2022 through face to face instruction and messenger call for those who cannot come
to school because of lack of transportation. With the observance of IATF health protocol and
the Alert Level 1, 0 COVID case of the barangay where the school is located, we preferred to
pilot test the materials in the school except for the one who resides outside Malalinta proper.
After reading, the comprehension questions/activities
were answered by the
learners. After an hour, the learners gave back the reading materials with answers to the
teacher for checking. As an assessment, the students can read Filipino but they cannot
comprehend based on the result of the given materials. They are slow learners thus they
need to have a remedial reading and activities to establish accuracy and fluency in reading
skills, to improve comprehension skills and to develop their love for reading.
