On the Psychological Type Survey Introvert Sensing Thinking Perceiving The Reflection of a Virtuoso Based on the result of the Psychological Type Survey, I have an ISTP type of personality—introverted, observant, thinking, and perceiving. Sensing and intuitive are tie but I prefer sensing for I believe it describes me more. According to a study, virtuoso (ISTP) tends to have an individualistic mindset, reserved, and engage in life with inquisitiveness and personal skill. As I evaluate myself in relation to the latter definition presented, I thoroughly concur. I have taken the MBTI personality test for few times already, thus, the result is not a surprised anymore. ISTP and INTP usually comes out but reading more about the two helped me decide between them. According to Jafari, Sana, et al., ISTP are enthusiastic, impulsive, and have a good outlook on life. We are reserved and independent, loyal to our own beliefs, and skeptical of societal conventions and values. ISTPs also embrace new challenges and risks and are good at adjusting to new environments and circumstances. We are quite reluctant when it comes to sharing our ideas, which can make us difficult for others to understand. ISTP or Virtuoso is someone with the introverted, sensing, thinking, and perceiving personality traits. Ever since, I have look upon myself as an introvert. I prefer having an alone time rather than to exert my energy with people, especially in a crowd where I am not familiar with. Dealing with people makes me anxious and feel drained. In fact, I can’t imagine myself being the life of the party. Energy speaking, I have a sensing type. Being a sensing or observant means being practical, they are most aware of what is happening in the moment right in front of them. In terms of energy, this what I am really confused with. I can be sensing but I can also be intuitive. I can be practical, but I also like to seek for new ideas and possibilities. Nevertheless, as I have stated earlier, I am more of a sensing person. I am more focused to what is the established facts given to decide out of it. Next, thinking vs. feeling. “How does this help?”, people with thinking personality usually ask this question. This is because we prefer to think of how’s rather than who. Personally, having this trait makes me feel that I totally lack emotions. Comparing myself to some of my family and friends, I have noticed that they tend to make decisions that are hugely influenced by the well-being of others. Meanwhile, being a thinker, I tend to make decisions based on what I think the most logical, effective, and realistic. I prefer to think of a scientific approach rather than to rely on what I feel. To simply say, head vs. heart, and I prefer the first one. In terms of tactics, I got a perfect score in perceiving. It is not really my trait to make detailed plans and do things according to what I have envisioned. In fact, I am the exact opposite. Ever since, I am always a procrastinator. I am not proud of it, as a matter of fact, I tried to change this trait too many times already. Guess what, I always fail and keep on coming back to my habit. Now, as I took this test, I have had a reflection that the reason of my difficulty changing is because this what I really am. I am naturally like this. I tend to be flexible and be open to possibilities. This trait also involves lack of conviction and indecision—the very downside of being a perceiving. Due to not having plans, there are many possibilities coming my way making me struggle to decide and be focused with. For example, as I write this reflection paper, it took me a couple of hours already due to my indecisiveness on the contents because as I write my ideas, other more ideas are coming up making me divert my thoughts to the new idea. These are only some of the explanations, reflection, and examples in which I think can justify the result of my personality test. I believe, I can still make more reflections and examples as I go through different situations in life. This psychological type of survey helped me better grasp who I am. I have realized that having an ISTP personality type is fascinating. Being an enthusiastic, impulsive, and have a good outlook on life. Being reserved and independent, loyal to our own beliefs, and skeptical of societal conventions and values. Wanting new challenges and risks and are good at adjusting to new environments and circumstances. But just like other personalities, it has also downsides wherein I am quite reluctant when it comes to sharing ideas, which can make me difficult for others to understand. Although this test is not totally accurate but to have an idea about myself can help me already in so many ways—from figuring out my strengths and weakness to choosing my own preferences and how to handle situations in life. Having to figure out my personality is like finally understanding a lesson in accounting—it’s fulfilling. Submitted By: Alfon, Kristel Joy G.
