Answer ALL the questions in this section
QUESTION 1
(10 Marks)
What, exactly, is ‘formative assessment’? The distinction between the summative and formative roles
was first proposed by Scriven (1967) in the context of programme evaluation (Black and Wiliam 2003;
Wiliam and Thompson 2008).
For Scriven, summative evaluation provided information to judge the overall value of an educational
programme (as compared with some alternative), whereas the results of formative evaluation were
targeted at facilitating programme improvement.
It was Bloom (1969) who, using the very same terminology, made a similar distinction, but with respect
to students (Black and William 2003; William and Thompson 2008). For Bloom (1969, 48), the purpose
of formative evaluation was ‘… to provide feedback and correctives at each stage in the teachinglearning process’.
Bennett, R. E. (2011)
Discuss the purpose of a formative assessment.
QUESTION 2
(10 Marks)
Describe a scenario on how you would use The Co-Operative Group Work Teaching Model to teach
Accounting as a subject in your class.
QUESTION 3
(30 Marks)
Using Bloom’s Taxonomy in questioning.
Bloom’s taxonomy is a classification system used to define and distinguish different levels of human
cognition—i.e., thinking, learning, and understanding. Educators have typically used Bloom’s taxonomy
to inform or guide the development of assessments.
Required:
Choose a topic from the Grade 11 Annual Teaching Plan.
Under each of the 6 cognitive levels, provide ONE (1) question relating to the topic that will help learners
to acquire knowledge. Provide a detailed description for why that question belongs in that cognitive level.
QUESTION 4

Grasping the concept of Financial Statements can be very challenging for learners who have chosen
accounting.
Construct a comprehensive lesson plan for Grade 12 learners on Financial Statements of a company
(Income Statement and Balance Sheet).
QUESTION 5
In our increasingly diverse and multicultural society, it’s more important than ever for teachers to
incorporate culturally responsive instruction in the classroom -- whether teaching elementary school,
middle school or high school students. And the increase of diversity doesn’t only relate to race and
ethnicity; it can include students of different religion, economic status, sexual orientation, gender
identity, and language background
QUESTION 5.1
(10 Marks)
In your opinion, do you believe that society should have diverse students in a classroom? Justify your
answer.
QUESTION 5.2
