List of Experiences of the Students A. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Activity Experiences “One of the most remarkable activities that we’ve done is the demonstration of CPR in our own homes; although I have done it with a stuff toy I still learned how to do it and this will enable me to help others when it is needed.” Matthew Dela Vega “I learned a lot from what we discussed and have a chance to do it in action. I want to say thank you to our professor Mr. Enrique Villones for giving us insights on how to perform and what are the things to remember in doing CPR. I've experienced a lot when it comes in modules 1- 5, and I was fascinated by different geographical profiles and locations of risk and hazards in the Philippines. How important is the Philippine Disaster Management System? Its comprehensive, integrated, and proactive in lessening the socio-economic and environmental impacts of disasters, including climate change that is aiming to promote the involvement and participation of all sectors and all stakeholders concerned, at all levels, especially the local community. I gain insights and notice that it is more than just management; humanitarian assistance and the global effort on risk reduction are concrete expressions of the country's commitment to overcoming human sufferings due to recurring disasters. It saves lives as it used to more than what we think it is. I also assure how a particular role needs to imply, how it affects me, that human toll; dead, injured, and missing. Community displaced, lost sources of livelihoods, environmental damages, infrastructure damages, economic losses, and hampered the delivery of services as a student, in all ages. “ I've learned that many things need to consider when it comes to learning CPR; before starting CPR, check: • Is the environment safe for the person? • Is the person conscious or unconscious? • If the person appears unconscious, tap or shake his or her shoulder and ask loudly, "Are you OK?" • If the person doesn't respond and two people are available, have one person call 911 or the local emergency number and get the AED, if one is available, and have the other person begin CPR. • If you are alone and have immediate access to a telephone, call 911 or your local emergency number before beginning CPR. Get the AED, if one is available. Remember that American Heart Association uses the letters C-A-B. It entails the importance of compressions in restore blood circulation, the airway, open the airway, and breathing; breath for the person. Lesson learned: I had learned many things, like performing bandaging because I find it easy, and I will probably apply my learnings in actual situations. Tying and untying the square knots and the whole procedures were very important in first aid, I find it useful because, it does matter when saving lives.” - Beatriz Anne N. Amparo “All in all, even though I knew how to perform CPR, there’s still a discouragement inside me to do it when it is needed in real life, because I am going to deal with the death and life of the patient and I know that if I failed to revive the patient that would be my nightmare for a lifetime.” Junar A. Dela Cruz “I always thought that I don't need to learn about CPR because there's no possibility that I'll encounter someone who'll need it. But after our meeting regarding the Procedure of CPR I thought I'm selfish for even having that thought. What if it happens to my family? I shouldn't be thinking that way, it is very important for every people to be educated of the importance of learning the CPR, because it can save someone's life.” – Carmela Escaraman “Based on the guides given, I followed rules in my module which is under module 4 to do the CPR. I asked my little brother to do a simple role playing with me, and all that he had to do was to lie down and fake sleeping. Then I am going to save his life pretending like he's having hard time breathing. After that scenario, I felt like I was really saving someone's life, and for that I can say that I have the courage to do (CPR) that when it is needed the most. I've learned the right procedures or steps in doing CPR, always remember the C-A-B which stands for Compression, Airway and Breathing, these are the processes that you have to follow in order to do the CPR in success.” – Lovely Shane Salvadora B. Bandaging Activity Experiences “We’ve been tasked to create again, a video about bandaging techniques. Actually as I was watching on how to properly do it I was nervous and kind of confused but when I was filming and actually applying what I’ve learned, I didn’t notice that I was actually enjoying doing it. Step by step I was able to finish a second activity and was able to pass it on time. I’m happy because I was given the opportunity to experience this kind of things for this will help me at times that I will encounter this not just for myself but also for the family, friends, and other people around me specially when they get wounds or injury.” – Cyra Joy De Leon “Performing the bandage was fun but chalenging at first, I did watch on youtube videos on how to tie and untie the knot and eventualy I was able to perfect it. I chose to perform the arm sling triangular bandage with the kid on my video as my model and it was just smooth, fun and full of learnings. I had a lot of learnings performing bandaging, because I find it easy and I will probably apply my learnings in actual situations. From tying and untying the square knots and the whole procedures were very important learnings I've got from doing it because it does matter when saving lives.” – Madem Montes Techniques learned are to do it properly at the same time consider its functions. Reassure them and explain what you're going to do. Please help them to sit or lie in a comfortable position. Support the limb or injured part of the body before applying the bandage. Start bandaging from the front and injured side of the casualty. Apply the bandage firmly but not so tight that it's restricting circulation. Leave fingers and toes exposed to help you check their circulation. Techniques learned are to do it properly at the same time consider its functions. Use a reef knot to tie a triangular bandage: right over left and under, then left over right and under location. Once you've finished tying the bandage, make sure you check for circulation by pressing on their finger or toe for five seconds until it goes pale. If the color doesn't come back after two seconds, then the bandage is too tight, and you will need to reapply more loosely. Check the circulation every 10 minutes. What is funny about this topic is that you can measure how resourceful a person could be when it comes to the point where you should look for some alternative method or material to serve as a substitute in a specific situation. I also realized that if these things happen in reality, one should keep on track with what he/she is trying to do and stay calm and not panic so that things would indeed flow how they should happen.” –Beatriz Anne Amparo C. Weekly Activity Experiences “I also taught my sister on her lessons which kind of annoying for me, but it's still fun for both of us and I think she enjoyed my company. Documenting my experience is what I enjoyed the most because in the future I could show it to someone and then tell them "Look how I did" and tell them the story behind it.” J - Joribelle Rizardo “How long would it take for us realized that every tree is so important for birds and other living creatures including us, for trees gives shelter to animals, shades protecting us from the rays of sun, bears fruits, holds the soil to prevent flooding, and provides fresh air for us to breathe. People tend to took advantage or nature thinking that it will grew back again, the number of beneficiaries is a lot more than to those who grew plants, and restores our natural resources, soon enough, may people recognize the value of each little things.” – Nieciel Layag “April 22, 2021, we posted photos featuring the beautiful scenery and supports our Campus in celebrating Earth’s day. We are to blessed to have this kind of surroundings, surrounded with the beautiful plants, trees, and a fresh air to breathe. We must keep this more elegant because God made it for us and we must nurture it for the next generation.” – Crecelle Ann Orilla “Then the weekly report, this is one of the most enjoyable activities I've done in this subject. We are asked to make a weekly report about what we have done to help our community. The pandemic and quarantine makes it more challenging since we are not allowed to go outside, we have to think convenient things that we could do to help our community. And the trend enters the conversation which is "planting" I became a plantita. Before this pandemic occurred actually I don't care about plants, I'm not fond of it, not even a little care about planting because I thought I am not good at it. But since it was the only thing that comes up to my mind at that moment, I tried it. I planted one plant and I named it Yoonii. That was the first I watered it as consistently as possible. Then to my surprise Yoonii grows faster than I expected. Then another follows I planted another plant. NSTP made me realize things that I am not noticing before, it makes me enjoyed planting without me even noticing. From doing it for the sake of activity into consistently taking care of it because it is really enjoyable and stress relieving. “ – Janein Rose Abillar “Remember don’t waste everything that came from our nature, be a human that loves nature, be a human that can protect nature, and be a human that belongs in this world. Learn to appreciate nature so that you can learn how to appreciate everything around you especially yourself.” – Johnmark Alagano Every time that I bake, I felt so happy. I learned in baking is, if you felt sad while baking the outcome is not good. Not only does the process of cooking and baking improve moods, but the feeling of satisfaction also gained when seeing the end product naturally enhances happiness. You’ve created something tangible that can be enjoyed and shared, giving yourself a welldeserved sense of achievement. Cooking goes further than a sense of accomplishment that can satisfy the emotional need for purpose and meaning in our lives. “Cooking is a task that requires a combination of several skills –understanding and planning, attention to detail, using our memory and imagination, manual dexterity, creativity, and style.” – Chriscela Astrera D. Indefinite Experiences “NSTP isn't just a subject, yet additionally, it is an incredible experience. You will gain some incredible feelings like joy and bliss. Without NSTP, our life in school is exhausting or dull. There we experience to give, to regard, and to show every single one of us to the next individual. To adore, to convey, to chip in, to take an interest, to mind and to give significance.” – Gabrielle Delica “In my whole semester, I’ve learned lot of things especially in terms of time management, self-discipline is a must and of course adjusting to his new learning modality. In this NSTP class, our Prof. Enrique Villones had some problems to attend in our class sometimes but I really appreciate how he considered those students who are not really able to attend and submit on time, and I am one of them. This kind of situation is not enough reason to give up on studying. After all, the only things I can say is, thank you educators to have patience for us as your students. “ – Angela Valencia “There are numerous definitions and various theories used to analyze the concept of community. I also learned that community social work signifies “the practice of professional social work with communities as target population or setting interventions”. Communities are the context for community social work and community social work recognizes the diversity of the communities. Community development refers to both the development of social grouping and also the nature of the relationship among the members.” – Andrea Jane Salvador “Based on my experiences in conducting the survey, I saw in my respondents' answers that life is not really easy, and that the pandemic has made it even more difficult. Not everyone has something to eat every day; many people have lost their income, lost their works, and all our daily lives changed. However, I also see that little by little everyone is getting up, they are making a way to survive, but it is still not enough for daily needs. It is sad to think that we will be tortured by torture, but I know that one day we will be able to overcome it too. I hope this pandemic end so that everything and everyone can go back to normal.” – Mary Andiolina Dolfo “Learn to move at your own and expect your success soon as fruit of your hard work. There's a time that we see ourselves nothing because of our situation thinking there will no better future waiting for us but we are wrong. If we work, the success is coming. We are the one who makes our future. Just like those people who answered our survey. They are not expecting any helps from other people instead they work hard for the future of their family because they know that the hard work is part of our journey to be success. Don't look to the bad situation now but look on what you can do to change the negative situation into a positive one.” -Maria Cristina G. Tarrobal “Do everything you can for yourself, you don't need to depend on other people. Based on Surrey that we made them the people who work hard for their family and you will really admire them because despite the hardships of life they are still able to squeeze even though many trials come into their lives. They are the people you need to be an inspiration in life because you can see the good father and mother who are even pandemic even if they don't calm down if it's just a pandemic that's us human beings so we're against each other. Even though life is hard, they lean on each other. That's why for me they are an inspiration. In the survey we did, there was an interview where we could say that we really need help because they are the family that is having a hard time in life and you can tell them what is happening in the world that is even harder to be poor even if we say that the government provides help until then that will be enough for them to awaken my mind that it is really difficult to be difficult.” -Angie Pauyo Mintal “Before we started this activity we think first about which barangay were going to interview, since we are not allowed to go outside because there’s a virus, we choose barangay San Luis where Mintal lives because they really need helps, then after that we made a question so we can easily figure out what they need, I mentioned earlier that we are not allowed to go out so only Mintal did the interview then she just sent to us all the details we need, then after that we tally the survey form and questionnaire form to know the result, then after that we found out that they really need help because in the questionnaire almost everyone answered that only one member in their family have a work, their money is not enough for their daily needs, and most of them did not graduate in college, then you can realize that education is very important, even if their situation is hard you can see that they are happy because they don’t lose hope and still fight all the problem that comes in their life and always remember just laugh all your problem because there’s a saying that laughter is the best medicine, maybe laughter is one of the best thing in our world that also brings so much cheer to our life, And because it brings positive even if we have a problem we forget it for a moment, it is also one of the reason why we become a strong person, the reason why we passed all the trials, problem, struggle, conflict that come into our life, the reason why we continue to fight and face any problem, and also laughter is one of the way to show other that you are strong enough to face any problem that come and if I have a chance to help them I won’t hesitate to help them because they deserve it.” - Edralyn Jacob Minga “I think the activities that we’ve done will have a great difference for us learners because it can give us a wide understanding and awareness about the issue and needs of the community, as well as the things that we must consider in being part of those people that serve’s the community. The project is indeed helpful for the future server of the nation. I am really happy that I become part of this people that has given an opportunity to learn this kind of activities for the people in the community, this project is indeed beneficial for us, to gain a lot of experiences and for the neighbors and other peers to help them in the problems that they are facing because of poverty and any other problems in the society. I have learn a lot of lesson but next time I want to apply it to the field that soon I will be taking, I would also like to inform others about the things that we can do to serve the community for our own good and for the safety and peace of others. All in all I can say that helping others and gaining experience from them is such a good opportunity for future teachers like us.” – Lea Angelica De Lunas “My experience was so fantastic upon posting it because as I said I really love nature. Posting picture about nature make me feel relax and happy at the same time. I know that was just so little to be happy for but I am indeed happy. Nature brings me happiness and peace.” –Keana Dela Vega “Overall experience from first semester until now, I just realized that education is still important especially we’re in the midst of pandemic and also having knowledge on first aid and bandaging can save someone’s life someday. The other activities about community really opened my mind on the world’s reality. I’m awakened that I am so much blessed, having food to eat more than three times a day, having a shelter that will protect me from any calamities or virus and lastly, have a privilege to study. I am so blessed more than I imagined compared to the people who I’d talk to who’s lack of what I have . And I know there are lots of people with the same situation with them. Knowing that makes me contended and grateful each of what I have right now. I just pray and hope that people in the government will really reach out each and those people who are really in need.” – Kristine De Asis “Everyone is trying to find the ways on how to survive their own daily lives. It doesn't matter if you are at a very young age, or even if you have too much gray hair because of your maturity. We are all struck by poverty, and it doesn't choose its victim. We are the one to decide whether we maintain poor, or to overcome this by means of doing everything to surpass it. But, if in case you know that you are not affected by it, and you have the capability to help others, then you should do it with all your heart. Helping means that you got someone's back, and if everyone would start practicing it then camaraderie and the true meaning of compassion will be achieved.” – Aldrin Timbal “For the whole school year in this subject, I have learned many things and I was able to perform it properly. I also learned how to be careful especially when the covid cases increases because since most of our activities are done outside we have to be extra careful. I learned how to start help my community by doing community services like tree planting, food selling and street cleaning.” –Erica Parinas “I have learned different kinds of lessons which pertain to public services in my community. I have conducted a service which is good services and this is a great experience because you will go to buy and sell the products. Another is about the CPR which very essential to help a person who need immediate response. And also I enjoyed listening to my prof because he is able to teach us very well about the topic. Though we are not in the face to face class I am still able to learn about more in this subject. I am grateful for my classmates because I was motivated also by them to listen and participate in this subject. I am expecting more about the subject. I hope that this is not the last time we will have NSTP.” -Kevin Dave Joaquin “In the piece of this NSTP subject was needed to do a medical aid, we are given to play out the legitimate method of CPR. Doing this sort of CPR isn't the primary experience, back when I was in Grade-11, I was the person who errands to play out the CPR, with the goal that I have a smidgen of information about performing it.” -Kristel Orilla “Undoubtedly, academics are an indispensable element of the evolutionary experience of gaining knowledge; however, the formation of empathy and both communication and self-reflection skills is equally essential In nstp thought us to serve our country in small ways i learned also how to first aid someone and different bandaging educational community procedure enhancement; service there, holds great significance and should be a compulsory component of students’ educational experiences. We can use this experience in the future how to deal with people may we apply this in work place the most important skills a student can have are their interpersonal and communicative and reflective, skills” –Catherine Mantalaba Tan “It was a great opportunity for us to be able to be useful in our community especially in case of emergency. It is one of the remarkable activities that we have done. It is very helpful for us because we can include ourselves as part of volunteers who are trained in this kind of stuff. I can surely use this activity in the future. It is definitely one of the most useful stuff that I have learned and perform.” -Lizel Bunyi “What I did is for the benefits of my own family and my own community, I know that those small things that I’ve done, will benefit a lot to our community. Also, as can you see, a lot of it are done inside our backyard, this is because of the Pandemic which just shows that we can still help to our community by simply maintaining our own house and backyard clean and organize. “ Mariella Olivera “I learned that even though we are in a difficult situation wherein we cannot go outside too often or socialize with others, there are still a lot of things we can do for our family, surroundings, and community. We can still help to improve and stabilize our community, join activities wherein we are still doing our duties and responsibilities as a member of the community and share our experiences to the future generation and be an inspiration to other youths.” -Jade Novel Onilongo The first task we do is to demonstrate how to do the CPR. What is the main goal of CPR?? The goal of CPR is to keep oxygen flowing in and out of the lungs and to keep oxygenated blood flowing through the body. This will delay tissue death. Sudden Cardiac Arrest: Sudden cardiac arrest is not the same thing as a heart attack.” Maria Fe Cudal “The webinars are helpful and timely, the speakers were genuinely exerting their knowledge to the students who were listening and watching the virtual seminars. As a freshman, it was a wonderful and likable experience. I can consider my experiences and works for this subject an adventure. The activities are really helpful especially in times of pandemic. There are many hindrances while doing the activities but that didn’t stop us from doing it. It was a great experience for us freshmen since it might be useful in times of emergency.” Ma. Angelica San Jose “I learned from this subject the things that we need to prioritize in our life, even though we are all in a new curriculum the new system for studying. I know we all have the strength to remain what we need to this situation. As of our whole semester, all of the first aid and the willingness to help our country is a very big contribution in today’s happenings.” – Cruz, Ella Mae P. “I attended google meets even though theres a lot of circumstances in my life, that I had a hard time, but I use the community service thing to distract myself from problems, I took care of our lot in Antipolo where I water plants, plan, cleaning the yard and a lot more.” “I have learned to value planting and to use my time in a relevant actions that will benefit myself. I have learned to do things enable for me to be progressive even in the simple form of service. I think that the project/activity made a difference because it made me responsible and made me love plants. It thought me to love what I have in life., at first I don’t like it but after doing it I realize that it will help you improve yourself. Next time I would take care of my own garden.” Angelo Miguel C. Delos Santos “In addition, the home quarantine activities has thought me to be a responsible person. Now I have realized, I am of big help to my family ang neighbor. I water plants every day, even without the documentation, I saw the importance of plants to our environment. I help in our mini business, where I sell halo-halo in front of our house, I really have fun earning money, here, I have learned the importance of saving every single centavo, not for my cellphone load, but for family needs. I also help in household choirs, cleaning the house inside and outside. I even learned and make souvenir items from recycled materials.” Nieciel Cortez Layag Conclusion At the end of the course, we have learned that we, as students have a big role in helping our society. we cannot forget what our mission as volunteers. From modules 1 -module 5, we learned what is the best for us. Starting from background and achievements of NSTP, we are now thinking of what best things can we do to serve other people, and help them alleviate poverty. We have learned the importance of sharing and giving, and thinking of others before ourselves, we become selfless. We now know how fortunate we are, that we can go to school, since there are really less fortunate who could not because they have to work first to earn for their living. Hopefully, if this Pandemic ends, we can share what blessings we have to others. Next is a subject that tests our abilities to cope and adopt even we admit pandemic. If we try to adapt things in new ways we are willing to commit. It helps each one of us to communicate with different types of people and helps the people who are in need. During the community immersion and employment or application of the classroom lectures and theories learned by the student-implementers, which is enhanced further, even though we do not meet face to face by providing service to our neighbors and immediate family members. We felt that strange feeling of giving small things to others, where you felt that they cherished it very much. From the basics of NSTP, CPR, and bandaging through community needs assessment survey and conduct of activities to help the family during Pandemic, we learned a lot. We have experienced and we can proudly share to our children and grandchildren, the importance of sharing amidst this pandemic and protecting our environment in our own little way, that no calamity or pandemic can hinder the eagerness of a volunteer to serve the community, the Filipino people.
