Data Analysis
Methods – Research Design
• A research design is a logical set of procedures that researchers
use to collect, analyze, and report their data in a research study
(Plano Clark & Creswell, 2015).
• States the type of research (quali, quanti, or mixed), the
research design (experimental, descriptive, etc.) and
justification on choosing the said research design
Methods – Setting
• States the site or location where data gathering was
administered and its justification
Methods – Participants
• States the general description, such as gender, number of
population, of the participants of the study and justification why
did the researchers chose the participants
• Demography (gender, status, occupation, etc.)
• Sampling method used
Methods – Instrument
• Provides specific details about the instruments used to collect
data.
• Its name
• Who developed it
• The types of responses collected with this instrument, and
• Information about the scores from this instrument
Methods – Procedure
• Describes the researcher’s general process for data collection.
• The procedures includes when did the participants completed
the questionnaire as well as informing the participants that their
information would be kept confidential and that their
participation was voluntary.
Methods – Data Analysis
• States what is the statistical treatment used to interpret the data
• Descriptive Statistics
are statistical tools that help researchers summarize the overall tendencies in the
data, provide an assessment of how varied the scores are, and provide insight into
where one score stands in comparison with the rest of the data.
(Central Tendency, Standard Deviation, & Percentile rank)
Methods – Data Analysis
• States what is the statistical treatment used to interpret the data
• Inferential Statistics
are statistical tools that researchers use in their quantitative data analysis to
consider more than one variable such as comparing groups or relating variables
and to make inferences from a sample to a population
(t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlational, etc.)
