Behavioural theory
By tanish and taikhoom
Background!!!!!!!!!
John Watson developed behavioral personality theory in 1913. He believed that one could predict
and even control human behavior based on the behavior patterns observed in his patients and
society.
What is the behavioural theory?
The behavioral theory is a psychological perspective that focuses on how environmental
factors, learning, and experiences shape an individual's behavior. It emphasizes observable
and measurable behavior rather than internal mental processes such as thoughts, emotions,
and feelings.
The behavioral theory suggests that behavior is learned through classical and operant
conditioning. Classical conditioning occurs when an individual learns to associate a
particular stimulus with a particular response, while operant conditioning occurs when an
individual learns to associate a behavior with a particular consequence, either positive or
negative.
Leaders who implement the theory
A great example of the behavioral theory is looking at a task-oriented leader vs. a people-oriented
leader. If there's a problem with a team, a task-oriented leader will look at the process to see if
something needs to be adjusted with the workflow.
Example:
Cristiano Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time, and
his success is not only due to his exceptional physical abilities, but also to his strong mental
attitude and mindset. Over the years, Ronaldo has talked about how he changed his mindset
to become the successful athlete and person he is today.
Evaluation of the theory
Advantages:
●
●
It helps determine the leadership styles of managers and team leaders.
It helps managers determine how their leadership style affects their relationship with the team
and promotes commitment towards business goals.
Disadvantages:
●
●
Behavioral theories are learned processes that take time and may not always be successful.
Personal biases may influence a manager's decision because they're expected to make
independent decisions and respond to different situations differently.
