History • The Arabian Peninsula was made up of nomadic tribes which would travel from place-to-place trading. • About half of the land was part of the ottoman empire, In 1744 it was founded. • It was a poor country until very large petroleum deposits were found in 1932. • Its economy exploded and its GDP went from 15 Billion to 184 billion in just 8 years. • It also has large gold mining sector in the Southern region. • The Monarchy was established on the 23rd of September 1932 by Ibn Saud who was the previously the king of Hejaz and Nejd, the regions which took control of the Saudi Arabian area. Sunni Muslim • The official religion of Saudi Arabia • Saudi Arabia is home to 2 of the holiest Muslim cities, Mecca(or Makkah) and Medina • In Al-Hijara, a Muslim holiday millions of Muslims from everywhere flood to mecca to see and worship around the Kaaba. • The Kaaba is a large black box which was supposedly built by Abraham when he arrived in Mecca and the horns of the lamb that was sacrificed in place of Isaac was put there. Although the Saudi Arabian government does not directly contribute to terrorism with their military, it funds many radical terrorist organizations targeting neighboring courtiers that compete with Saudi Arabia. Many terrorist groups have been supplied and had gone into Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan. In cities it is safe, but protests get very violent, and police are very hot headed. Capital punishment is still a sentence, and you can be executed for being homosexual. The crime rate is 3.88 which is moderate. In Saudi Arabia, the most common used clothing is a hijab over the head and women wearing an Abaya which covers the entire body except the head hands and feet. It is very disrespectful for women to show most of their heads or to not cover their bodies. In some more conservative areas, it is even a punishable offence. Art and calligraphy are very big in the middle east and they often like to display their artwork on carpets. Soccer is also very big there with them having one of the best teams in Asia. Saudi Arabian cuisine is like all other middle eastern and Indian diets. In the Muslim religion it is strictly forbidden to eat pork, they say it is haram. They like eating kababs which are meats like beef mutton or chicken on a stick and grilled. They also like Biryani which are fried ground beef snacks served with hummus.
