Unit 7 Decision Point
Based on what I've read about the importance of CSR for businesses, I'd anticipate Shell
to be committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. This would include efforts to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase renewable energy investments, reduce the
environmental impact of its activities, and collaborate with stakeholders to address social and
environmental problems.
DuPont's Chairman Charles O has emphasized the importance of corporate social
responsibility (CSR) in business operations, particularly in addressing environmental concerns.
Based on this emphasis on CSR, it is expected that Shell, a multinational oil and gas company,
will prioritize sustainability and social responsibility in their business practices.
Environmental protection is one of the CSR activities that Shell is anticipated to
implement. Considering the focus on sustainability, Shell would probably invest in tools and
methods to reduce their carbon footprint and lessen the harm their operations bring to the
environment. The business might also put systems in place to lessen pollution and waste
production while also aiding environmental preservation efforts.
In conclusion, it is anticipated that Shell will place a high priority on sustainability and
social responsibility in their business processes based on the value that Dupont's Chairman
Charles O placed on CSR. Implementing environmental protection, social responsibility,
community involvement, openness, and ethical company practices would probably fall under this
category.
Shell has worked hard in recent years to put a solid CSR strategy in place. They have, for
instance, set goals to lower their carbon impact and use more renewable energy. They stated
goals to become a net-zero emissions energy company by 2050 or earlier in 2020, and in March
2021 they unveiled a strategy to quicken their development in this direction.
Shell has nevertheless come under fire from some environmental organizations for not
doing enough to stop climate change in spite of these efforts. For instance, some claim that
compared to their investment in conventional oil and gas, their investment in renewable energy
sources is still quite tiny.
Specifically they will have to focus on these areas ; investing in R&D to improve the
effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of renewable energy sources, changing their business
strategies to concentrate on the generation and delivery of renewable energy. forming alliances
with businesses in the renewable energy sector to hasten the transition of those businesses to
more environmentally friendly business models, investigating potential new sources of income in
fields like energy storage and infrastructure for electric vehicle charging.
Overall, Dupont's actions indicate that major energy firms may be able to significantly
alter their economic models in response to environmental concerns. But, businesses like Shell
will need to make large investments and shift their business strategies in order to fully move to a
sustainable economic model.
