1. Why does food need to be covered?
Food needs to be covered because it keeps anything from contacting your dish and making
it bad or rotten. By covering food, you also keep it fresh and it lasts longer.
2. Why should you always check the use by date on food products?
You should always check the use by date on food products because all food items can go
bad and it can expire. By checking the use by date on the product you can determine
whether the food it ok to eat or not.
3. Why should you make sure your equipment is clean before you use it?
It is vital to make sure that your equipment is clean before you use it because of your tools
aren’t then when you use them to prepare food, the already existing food particles will
combine into your meal and it will ruin it. It is also not very hygiene to use dirty tools or
tools that you used for something else when making food.
4. Why should spills be cleaned up immediately?
Spills should be cleaned up immediately because it can cause someone to slip and injure
themselves or even yourself when walking around. Also, if you spill a product that is highly
flammable, and it contacts something that is burning then it will cause a fire. Spills can also
stain the surface that they are on.
5. Why is it important to wash your hands thoroughly before cooking?
it is important to thoroughly wash your hands before cooking because diseasecarrying bacteria live in all sorts of places, including the handles of school bags,
lockers, on a bus, on desks or even on chairs.
6. Why should long hair be tied up when you are cooking?
Long hair should always be tied up when cooking a meal because when your hair is
not tied up, some strands of hair can fall and land on your meal or cooking area. Hair
on your food is not hygienic and even if it falls onto your work surface it can still
contaminate your food. Also, if you are cooking something on a pan and your hair
isn’t tied up it could end up catching on fire.
7. Why should we remove all jewellery before cooking?
We should remove all jewellery because your jewellery can fall into something you
are preparing without you knowing. Your jewellery can also get caught or stuck onto
something.
