Wireless Leak Detection System — Helpful Hints Thank you for choosing an AquaTrip Leak Detection System. It cannot prevent leaks occurring, however if programmed correctly, it can potentially minimise the impact of the leak by detecting it timeously. HOW IT WORKS AquaTrip logs every time water flows, whether it is a dripping tap or a fully flowing hose pipe. It then measures the water fl ow time in minutes, and compares it to the water Flow Time programmed into the system for that time of day or night. If the water flows constantly for longer than the programmed Flow Time, the valve will close and the water will shut off. AquaTrip divides the day and night into different time periods, you can then set different Flow Times for the different time periods of the day, That way it can allow longer water flow for peak water use periods, and shorter flow times for off peak or overnight periods or when you are away and the house is unattended. Refer to page 16 of the manual. Leaks can occur at any time, however they tend to cause the most damage if they occur while A) the property is unattended OR B) you are asleep To best address these two scenarios the system has two very important features AWAY Mode - Use the AWAY mode option when leaving your home. This minimises the amount of time that water can flow before being detected by the system. You can engage this function automatically, by turning on the AWAY WATCH function, or manually, by pressing the HOME/AWAY button when you leave the house unattended. Refer to page 19 of the manual. NIGHT Mode - Use the automatic NITE WATCH mode option for protection while you are sleeping. This minimises the amount of time that water can flow for the time period after 11pm before being detected by the system. This time period and the flow time within it, is adjustable to suit your lifestyle. Refer to page 18 of the manual. HOW MANY MINUTES OF WATER FLOW SHOULD I ALLOW, BEFORE THE AQUATRIP WILL SHUT OFF THE WATER To maximise the speed of response of your system, set your Flow Times in each mode to be as short as possible. Think how long you would need water to flow nonstop, for any specific water using activity, eg: showering, running a bath, or watering the garden, and then add a few minutes on to that, and that can be your Flow time setting. The day and night is divided into three different time periods – Peak Usage, Standard Usage and Night Usage. Each period is adjustable for the time of day/night it applies and the length of time the water can flow within that time period. IRRIGATION AND AUTOMATIC POOL FILLERS If you have an irrigation system, you will need to tell the AquaTrip what time of day, and on which days that the system will run, and then the AquaTrip will ignore water flow during that time of the day or night. See page 17 of the manual. If you have an auto top up pool filler, these often trickle feed and can look like a leak. To prevent this, you will need to isolate the water supply to the pool filler tap, and install a timer which allows it to top up for a fixed time period each day, this will prevent the AquaTrip seeing the top up as a leak. WHAT TO DO IF THE WATER TURNS OFF Press the RESET WATER button on the Control Panel. The water will come on within 15 seconds. Then look for the cause. CHANGING THE BATTERIES AND CHECKING THE SYSTEMS FUNCTIONALITY Your AquaTrip runs on five AA Alkaline batteries. Two in the Control Box mounted near your water meter, and three in the Control Panel located inside your house. While they can last several years, we recommend you replace the batteries annually and do a system function check at the same time, as detailed in the manual. You may prefer to have your plumber do this as a regular annual event. It is very important to do an annual system check. Every five years we recommend you replace the rubber diaphragm in the shut off valve, this should be done by a plumber.
