Output 6: Reflection/ Reaction The 10 Golden Rules for Leading a Good Life are ancient teachings from Greek philosophers on how to live a good life that have been defined into modern times. I'm not familiar with this, but now I see the importance and relevance of it, especially now that I'm a young adult. It's been difficult for me, especially this time, because I'm very busy and don't know how to balance my studies, personal growth, and interactions with other people or socialization. There's a lot to learn from these, but here are my takeaways after reading everything. The first is to assess my life and engage in new opportunities that come to mind. I enjoy exploring the world around me, and I am especially interested in understanding the human body. That is why, I chose nursing as my course because it allows me to apply the knowledge I have to real-world situations. But after having done a lot of reading and studying about health, I now have an ambition of becoming a doctor in the future so that I may help others and learn more about medicine, which is something I really enjoy doing. The second is to focus solely on the things over which I have control. This is one of the things that raised out to me because this is one of my concerns with myself because there are many issues and conditions that are beyond my ability to resolve or alter but I still keep on using my energy with all of those. For example, one thing I wish I had known before choosing nursing is that it will require a lot of work and sacrifices, especially now that I have night shifts, which I really don't like in the first place because I don't like to drain myself with the work, especially at night because I prioritize my sleep. However, now that I have read this article, especially this part, I realize that I can't alter or change my course right now However, I can change my responses to the situation and think positively, even though I sacrifice a lot of things, it is also satisfying to help others, especially those in need, so it is one of the things that help me and will help me in my future clinical duty. Third, cherish friendship because associative relationships are a source of our identity and true satisfaction in life. For me, I had a lot of friends, and they are my support, especially in difficult times when I have to make decisions, and sometimes if I have personal problems, they are my source of strength because they can listen to me and give me some potential solutions to my problems. Because my emotions affect my judgments, I am unable to see the other side of the story. This is where my friends come in handy because they can approach me and show me the bigger picture, explain everything in the best way possible, and provide me with some helpful solutions. Moreover, I can cherish our friendship by simply giving my friend a small complement each day when we meet and even a simple "thank you" could have a great impact to them and to me also. The fourth is to enjoy true enjoyment and live simply. In this section, I come to understand that there are two forms of pleasure: kinetic, which is brief, and catastematic, which is strong and lasting. After reading this, I realized some of my decisions in my life, particularly about my living situation in Quezon City, where I must decide whether to rent an apartment or stay in our school dorm, which is much more affordable. After carefully considering all of the advantages and disadvantages, I decided to live in a dormitory. It is a good choice because recently I had a problem with my finances and thankfully I chose to stay in much affordable accommodations that give me peace of mind, because if I chose to have an apartment it would give me short-term pleasure but in the end it would be a problem and worries, especially keeping up with the monthly payment. Another thing is to be a responsible human being and approach myself with honesty and sincerity. One of the skills I'm working on right now is being accountable and responsibility for my mistakes. I know that by doing so, I may be an honorable individual while also contributing to peace of mind, and this can help me live my life in harmony. Furthermore, I learnt that prosperity or accumulation of wealth will never be equivalent to happiness. Most individuals, especially nowadays, are driven to be wealthy and powerful since having money may grant freedom, opportunities, and the power to influence anything, which can lead to happiness for some people. But for me, before our family reside in an uncomfortable environment, and our living conditions are not ideal. Despite our lack of resources, we are able to experience intense happiness, which is formed by relationships with family members, and to be content with our lives. I understand that at the time, life was simple and fulfilling, and this helped me understand that having money does not guarantee happiness. While wealth does have many benefits, such as enabling travel, these benefits are temporary and likely to change with time. Last but not least, showing kindness to others often results in benefits in return. Kindness is characterized by the ability to be nice, generous, and caring. This is one of the abilities that we practice as nurses because it involves the willingness and giving attention to someone else. And for me, it is beneficial, especially for my mental health and well-being, because I am able to connect with other people know their story, reflect their experiences with mine and to it open an opportunity to understand different conditions in life, and as a result, I am able to be appreciative, and to create a positive mindset. That is all I learnt after reading two of the articles. And I gain a lot of knowledge on how to live a good life and be grateful. This article defines the terms "good life," "happiness," "success," and "pleasure" and demonstrates how they apply in everyday life. I know that this article and all of my takeaways will be the foundations for a happy life right now, especially with all of my difficulties as a student. This also explains why I should be gentle with myself, rest, and focus on all of the values and traits that I possess, as well as be positive and express thankfulness with others, because all of these things will help me establish a healthy life and improve my overall well-being.
