Top-7 endangered species of animals FULFILLED BY YAZYCHENKO DARYA COURSE 4, GROUP 1940 FACULTY OF INTERNATIONAL LAW MITSO 2022 Plan • Introduction ; • Sawfish; • Silky sifaka; • Singapore freshwater crab; • Japanese taimen; • The Mexican Wolf; • Indian big drofa; • Giant soft-bodied turtle of the Yangtze River; • Conclusion. 2 Introduction Extinction is a completely natural process, typical species died out during the first 10 million years, although some of them were able to survive without resorting to any changes and adaptation up to the present day. However, nowadays, when the planet is filled with 7 billion people, the extinction of species occurs 1000 times faster than usual. Some scientists believe that up to half of the currently living species of animals and plants may disappear by 2100. 3 Sawfish • Sawfish refers to large fish species, reaching 7.5 meters in length. • Once it inhabited the tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, and was seen even in the north of Australia. • Overfishing of this fish has led to the fact that this fish has disappeared from more than 95% of its past habitat. 4 Silky sifaka • Located in Madagascar; • Its distinctive feature is its long silky white fur; • The number of this species varies between 100 and 1000 individuals, although according to some estimates, the number of adults does not exceed 250. 5 Singapore freshwater crab • It is a species found only in Singapore; • This crab reaches a length of only 3 centimeters; • It's a night creature; • Currently, only two populations of this species are known. 6 Japanese taimen • Observed on the islands of Sakhalin, Hokkaido and on the mainland of Far Eastern Russia; • The Japanese taimen is a large freshwater fish of the salmon family; • At the moment, the population of taimen is only 5% of what it was a few decades ago. 7 The Mexican Wolf • Mexican wolf is a subspecies of the common gray wolf; • Lives in the Sierra Madre Mountains and in western Mexico; • Today, their number is only a few dozen. 8 Indian big drofa • Found in several areas of India and Pakistan; • Bird with a horizontal body and long bare legs, which makes it look like an ostrich; • by 2011 the number of these birds was only 250 individuals. 9 Giant soft-bodied turtle of the Yangtze River • This turtle firmly holds the title of the largest freshwater turtle in the world; • Found in China and Vietnam; • There are only two living individuals left in the world: a female and a male; 10 Conclusion Why is it important to protect endangered species? The disappearance of any species will entail serious changes in the entire ecosystem. They regulate each other's numbers. In addition to regulating the number of each other, some animals perform important specific functions. So, hyenas feed on carrion, and thereby cleanse the earth of corpses. Insects participate in pollination of plants, and worms and termites loosen the soil. Each species is very important and unique for our world. And that’s why it is very important to preserve nature and animals. 11 Thanks for your attention 12
