The branch office of the United Nations in my locality is International Labour Organization (ILO). The ILO is a specialized agency of the United Nations for the world of work. The Philippines became part of the organization on June 15, 1948. They established an office in Manila in 1970. The ILO's objectives in the country are to promote a Decent Work Agenda based on four strategic pillars: rights at work, decent employment opportunities, social protection, and social dialogue. The organization helps people to have good work and sustainable livelihood in the country. They also ensure the safety and health of the employees and provide job opportunities for unemployed people. The challenge that they encounter is the rise of informal workers in the country. Half of the workforce in the country are informal workers. If they have decent work that ensures their safety, they can get out of poverty, and their income will be better.
