UNIVERSITY OF CALOOCAN CITY Graduate School MIDTERM EXAMINATION MAED 305 MR. KARYLL M. DANTES MAED 1-A DR. CARLA PARANIS PROJECT PROPOSAL (Part I) Long-Range Goal: To decreased the number of drop-outs and students with failing grade due to mental wellbeing Problem Statement: To decreased the number of drop-outs and students with failing grade due to mental wellbeing by 90%-100% of Junior High School Students in Caybiga High School, Caloocan City in 3 years I. Title: We COPE! C-reating O-ptimistic P- ersuading and E-quipped future Generation II. Proponent: Mr. Karyll M. Dantes III. Background (Selection and Prioritization): Students at this point of time are experiencing a lot of hardship in school coping to the new normal, they are experiencing challenges in terms of their Social, Mental and Emotional wellbeing and it adds a factor to the increasing number of dropout and students with failing grade. Self-motivation is an essential requirement; however, many students lack it. After enrolling, many learners fall behind and nurture the idea of giving up. Every student needs to feel like they are a part of a group or connected to their peers. Most of the time, these connections are built at school. But for those who struggle to develop friendships or who frequently find themselves on the fringe of every social circle, the school can be a significant source of pain. This lack of social connection also KMD puts these students at risk for bullying leading them to quit school. Emotional problems are among the most common health issues affecting school age children. They are also some of the most likely to affect academic performance. Copeland et al. (2021) reported that the pandemic adversely affected students’ behavioral and emotional functioning, particularly attention and externalizing problems (i.e., mood and wellness behavior), which were caused by isolation, economic/health effects, and uncertainties. In Fawaz et al.’s (2021) study, students raised their concerns on learning and evaluation methods, overwhelming task load, technical difficulties, and confinement. To cope with these problems, students actively dealt with the situation by seeking help from their teachers and relatives and engaging in recreational activities. These active-oriented coping mechanisms of students were aligned with Carter et al.’s (2020), who explored students’ self-regulation strategies. Rationale (Scoping): This project is intended to address the challenges experiencing by the students particularly in Social, Mental and Emotional wellbeing leading them to have failing grades or worst to dropout. We want to make changes and concessions for teachers in order to persuade many students to continue studying despite the challenges they are experiencing. This project wants to foster positive and conducive way of addressing the students’ challenges.
