Questions: In “The Cry for Myth”, May says that we need to have heroes rather than celebrities. Do you think that we have any heroes in our society? Or do you agree with May that we only have celebrities? What do they think is the difference between the two? Give some examples of these. Who were your heroes when you were still young? Do they have different heroes today? How have your ideas about heroism changed? How has society’s attitude toward celebrity changed in recent years? Answer: In our society, we both have celebrities and heroes. And so, I do think we have any heroes in our society, but we also have celebrities. The difference between heroes and celebrities are that heroes can be a main fictional character or a real person who has the courage, strength, and faces danger, also has a pure heart and pure intention, and can sacrifice themselves to fight and protect the society. Some examples of heroes are the frontliners who serves our country and helps people during pandemic. Our National Heroes such as Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Apolinario Mabini, they are examples of a real life heroes. Also, our government employees, the public servants such as teachers, doctors, firefighters, policemen, militaries, and so on are real life heroes. While the celebrities are the famous person in areas of entertainment such as movies, music, sports, or writing, also they stands as role models for people who supports them. Some examples of celebrities, in a field of music is BTS (They are popular internationally, mostly to young people), in a field of movies are Kathryn Bernardo, and Daniel Padilla (They are popular as a loveteam in our country, and for being a real life couple). Since, celebrities are actor and actresses that can roleplay, they can also be considered as a hero that play the role of a hero, some example for this are The Avengers, there are lot of heroes in that movie such as Ironman (Robert Downey Jr. play this role), Thor (Chris Hemsworth play this role), Captain America (Chris Evans play this role), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo play this role), and more. When I was a kid, I used to watch Darna, it is our national superhero, I even imitated and imagined that I am Darna. But, regarding to a real life heroes, I admired all the teachers a lot, to the point it became as my dream profession. There is no much difference in heroes then and now, but in modern time, everyone can be a hero when you have the characteristic of heroism. I have realized that heroism is not all about the fame and such but it is a responsibility of an individual to make our society better, everyone can be a hero. Celebrities serves as a role model and idol of our society, especially to the young people, they can inspire and motivate people. They have a lot of influence in our society. People tends to imitate their idols, they want their styles to be like from their idols..
