Question
TRIAL PAHANG 2016: QUESTION 11
(A) (i) What is the meaning of heat capacity ?
The quantity of heat needed to raise the temperature of
1 kg mass of a substance by 1°C .
(A) (ii) Explain in term of specific heat capacity, why the
final temperature of liquid X is higher than liquid Y .
● Liquid X and Liquid Y has the same initial temperature
● Liquid X has a lower specific heat capacity than liquid Y
● Liquid X need to absorb lesser heat to raise the temperature
than Liquid Y
● Temperature of Liquid X rises more quickly than Liquid Y
(B) (i) Based on the information given in the Diagram 11.2 and Table 11.1,
calculate the amount of heat energy involves for Liquid X and Liquid Y .
C = Q/ m0
Q = mc0
Liquid X
Liquid Y
m= 0.3 kg
m= 0.3 kg
c = 2100
c = 4200
0 = 15°c
0 = 5°c
Liquid X
Liquid Y
Q = mc0
Q = mc0
Q = (0.3)(2100)(15)
Q = (0.3)(4200)(5)
Q = 9450 J
Q = 6300 J
(B) (ii) State one assumption that you have made
in 11(b)(i) .
Liquid X absorbs more heat than Liquid Y .
(C) Table 11.2 shows design of 4 pressure
cookers and their characteristics.
P - without sealing ring
Q - sealer ring
R - sealer ring
S - multi layer
- without release valve
- release valve
- without release valve
- release valve
- one layer
- multi layer
- one layer iron pot
- steel pot
- iron pot
- steel pot
Characteristics
Explanation
Material of pressure
cooker : steel pot
Stainless, long lasting and withstand pressure
Has release valve
Release steam pressure build around the lid
Has sealer ring
To make sure the pressure cooker is tightly closed
and steam is not allowed go out
Has multi layer
The most suitable pressure
cooker : Q
Prevent heat lost
Because it is made of steel, has release valve,
has sealer ring and has multi layer
