Application and Validity:
Type approved transit system for cable, pipe and bundle pipe in Class A
divisions (bulkhead and deck). GK transits consist of GK metal frame and
GK sealing system (modules and accessories halogen-free). GK transits
meet the integrity and insulation criteria of the divisions. Max. operating
temperature of the cable/pipe 90°C. All work is carried out in accordance
with current welding and mounting instructions and should only be carried
out by trained personnel, in compliance with legal regulations. For projects
of the German Navy VG 88717 must be taken into account. Depending on
the requirements, transits can be completely-, partially- or un-insulated.
The regulations of the responsible flag state administration must be observed if necessary. Information, technical drawings, certificates, insulation
instructions, training and inspections are available on request from Roxtec
GmbH (technic-germany@roxtec.com or www.gkmarine.de).

Seal type: Wedge seal (KAD)
Frame sizes: 2, 4, 6 & 8, single frame.
GK Sealing System Components
The material selection of the metal parts depends on the specific requirements of
the transit. If there is a risk of corrosion or electromagnetic influence, metal components made of stainless steel should be used!

Single frames and the outer chambers of the group frames in particular tend to warp due to the welding process. Deviations from the tolerance should be eliminated before inserting the cables/pipes. If
in doubt, determine exact values with suitable measuring equipment. For gas and water tightness, the
tolerance of ± 1.0 mm must be observed.

Cables and pipes are routed through
separate chambers. Overcrowding must
be ruled out.
Align the center of each cable/pipe in
the frame on the modular grid. Special
modules on request. For large cables/
pipes, position the KAD between the
cables/pipes.
Guide the cables/pipes straight and
without radius through the frame. Align
large or rigid cables/pipes to the module
position in the frame and tighten the
KAD. Only then, tighten the line holder.
3. Modules: Size & Diameter
Determine cable/pipe diameter
e.g. with GK caliper gauge.

For gas and water tightness, the modules must not be selected too
large or too small.

By filling the packing frames with modules, the certified fire resistance class (through additional fire protection insulation) and the
compressive strength is guaranteed. Filling continues until the packing height „H“ is reached. Two module halves „MH“ each seal one
line. In case of pressure requirements, (gas and water pressure) only
one block size should be used in each module row. If a large number
of lines is required, four small „MH“ modules may be used in addition
to large „MH“ modules (e.g. 2x40 & 4x20). Only here may the small
modules be turned by 90° if necessary. The largest module in the
row determines the height of the packing row. Filling modules „FM“
and tween plates „ZWP“ fill the frame completely. Each row ends
with a metal anchor plate „VAS-Metal“. Without pressure requirement, plastic anchor plates „VAS-HF“ can be used instead of metal
anchor plates.

VASK
The pre-press tool (VPH) reduces air gaps and further assembly is made
easier. If mounting is interrupted, the VPH compresses the module rows
and the anchor clutch (VASK) secures the modules when the VPH is
removed. The VASK must be removed before further assembly.
One wedge seal KAD for each
chamber width: KAD-60; KAD120 and KAD-180
(untightened height = 40 mm).
Expose the wedges of the KAD and then carefully lubricate
all sliding surfaces with GK mounting lubricant directly before
assembly.

Wedge Tool
Push the KAD in completely up
to the stop. The KAD must always be mounted between two
VAS. Beyond that, the position is
arbitrary.
Max. 3 mm
$
STOP
$
Tighten KAD nuts evenly (with wedge tool). Tighten the special nut tighten the nuts until stop, but each nut must be checked individually.
Module offset max. 3 mm, modules must not rest on the VAS edge! The tightening procedure is OK when all visible gaps are closed, lines are
firmly compressed between the module halves and GK mounting lubricant is pressed-out. Optimum tightness is achieved after 24 hours!
Fire-resistance class:
Transits of fire resistance class A-15 to A-60 require fire protection insulation according to insulation drawings.
Transits for cables and bundle pipes in A-0 divisions are mainly designed without fire protection insulation.
Transits for pipes in A-0 divisions require fire protection insulation according to insulation drawings.
Detailed insulation instructions are available from Roxtec GmbH (technic-germany@roxtec.com).

Disassembly & Modification
General note:
The GK Packing System is a type-approved and safety-relevant element for shipbuilding and must be used accordingly. Initial installation puts the plastic
material under considerable compressive force and distorts it to a degree in order to achieve the required fire resistance class and any required pressure
resistance. Depending on the time, temperature and other environmental influences, material that has already been installed should not be reused in
cases of uncertainty. Corrections to incorrectly installed transits must be made promptly after initial installation before the lubricant has dried and the
installation shows signs of setting. For modification of the transits, the wedge seal must always be completely loosened and reset to the height of 40 mm
(see following points). No care or maintenance of the GK Packing System is required. However, the system should be checked at regular intervals for completeness, damage, corrosion or contamination with harmful substances such as oil, fuel, acids and alkalis, etc., which could impair the safety of the penetration. If necessary, the GK Packing System should be cleaned or replaced in order to restore its safe condition.
To open the packing chamber,
loosen KAD nuts step by step
and loosen the wedges of the
KAD by hammer blows on the
nut(s) until KAD is completely
relaxed.
Use a flat object to lower the
KAD plates from VAS or modules, release KAD to 40 mm
initial height.
Remove KAD and reuse it only
if KAD is undamaged and in
perfect condition. Faultless VAS
metal are reusable!
For transits without pressure requirements: Fill the affected rows
completely with new modules;
with pressure requirement: fill
the frame completely with new
modules and accessories.
Lubricate the module halves;
insert the lower half of the
module into the frame, insert the
upper half at a slight angle into
the frame, apply slight pressure
or short hammer blows.
