INTRODUCTION
Circular fashion—a system in which articles are circulated and reused for as long as
they can be, before being decomposed safely.
In the circular model of production, distribution
and usage, every garment is made keeping its
next use in mind. It’s designed for longevity,
biodegradability and recyclability. It’s sourced
and produced without using any techniques or
materials that are toxic for the environment.
This way, in its entire lifecycle, the article
doesn’t harm the environment at any stage. But,
goes without saying, the success of the model
is dependent on the consumer’s actions. And for
starters, it’s essential that we buy sustainable
fabrics and reuse and recycle garments. Apart
from that, we also ought to use, wash and
repair them with care; and consider swapping,
renting and redesigning instead of buying more.
Last but not the least, it’s always best to
choose quality over quantity.
Today’s economies are primarily based on a linear
model. Resources are extracted from the planet,
turned into products and then thrown away when
no longer required. There may be some reuse and
recycling on the way but ultimately it is still “takemake-waste”.
In contrast to this, a more sustainable approach is,
well, more circular - keeping resources, once
extracted, in circulation for as long as possible
through products that are used and reused and can
be easily recycled into raw materials to use in
production without the need to extract new
resources.

Funky kalakar
Funky Kalakar is a lifestyle brand. They bring alive the
stories of the ancient craft in the form of contemporary
designs by handcrafting them using natural materials.
At Funky Kalakar, they practice circular fashion, because
they believe that with the current state of
environmental hazards, even sustainable fashion
lacks the power to save our sinking environment
and circular fashion is the way out of this chaos
now.
The measures towards circular fashion:The sole of the shoes is made from discarded car tyres
to prevent landfill pollution by giving the tires a new
life. Till date, they have upcycled more than 1400
KGS of tyres.
The bags are made of materials which are recyclable up
to 8 times.
The packaging is 100% plastic-free (even tapes) and
100% biodegradable.
Go Zero; a circular fashion initiative by Funky Kalakar,
wherein they endeavour to take back used bags &
footwear and thus help unclog landfills and instead
give them a second life.

CONCLUSION
Even just attempting to move to a more circular
model brings benefits in reducing waste and
pollution.
Circular fashion is a whole system
approach. For the fashion industry to move
from a linear to a circular model the
following areas need to be addressed.
1. Design with sustainability and
circularity in mind
2. Produce sustainably
3. Keep in use for longer
4. Recycle easily back into raw inputs
5. Return any waste to nature easily,
quickly and safely
