Both the T - 5 4 and T - 5 5 can be identified by a gap between the first and second of the five road wheels. A 580 BHP diesel engine powers the tank through a rear drive sprocket. The primary improvement upon the T-55 is the mounting of a 115mm gun. The T-62 can be readily distinguished from the T-55 by different road wheel spacing and a fume extractor twothirds of the way down the gun barrel. A modified version of the T-62 exists with an AA machine gun mounted on the loaders cupola. It is found in many Warsaw Pact and other Armies. In GSFG it has been replaced by the D - 3 0 . It is mounted on the same type of carriage as the 152 mm D-1 Howitzer, but it may be distinuished from the larger gun by having no muzzle brake. Distinguishing features are the double box trail and the recoil mechanism above and below the barrel forward of the shield.
