Department Course Permission Numbers Permission numbers are necessary to register or add any class in the department beyond the first four, “pre-clinical phase” classes. That is, CD 405 Phonetics, CD 410 Hearing Science, CD 415 Speech and Language Development, and CD 442 Speech Science, have unrestricted access for enrollment. All other undergraduate classes and all graduate classes are restricted and require permission numbers. The first step in receiving a permission number is to meet with your faculty academic advisor who will review your course of study, help you plan for the next term, and assist you in completing a department advisement form. On this form, you will request access to restricted courses. The department office reviews all requests for restricted courses and issues personal course permission numbers. A permission number is a permit given to a specific student for a specific seat in a specific class. A permission number is only for the use of the student to whom it is issued. It is regarded as academic dishonesty to sell, give, or trade permission numbers or to use the permission numbers given to another person. Rosters of restricted courses are audited by the department to ensure that enrollment is limited only to those receiving an authorized permission number. A registered student who either has given or obtained a permission number that was not authorized and issued by the department will be subjected to academic discipline for cheating as well as dismissed from class. Academic dishonesty also will place clinical privileges into jeopardy. If a permission number fails to work properly at registration, contact the department office for assistance. If a permission number is no longer needed, contact the department office so that another student may have an opportunity to enroll.
