As a current student, I’ve had my own experiences with writing about literature in school. I could recall my first encounter with literary analysis while in high school, we were assigned to write about on about the book we read in the summer prior to school starting. I found a little hard at first since this was my first encounter with understanding how analysis essays work. However, with help from my teacher it became easier to complete the piece and ended up enjoying the process of analysing literature. With that I also learned to write about other various works throughout my academic career, such as rhetorical and argumentative essays. I’ve written about various texts such as “To Kill a mockingbird”, “Fahrenheit 451”, “Animal Farm”, and many more. I enjoyed writing about Animal Farm the most, why because in all of it metaphors it was the book I could really understand and, I thought that George Orwell was an amazing author overall. When it comes to the things that I like about writing different pieces of literature it would have to probably be the ability to search through complex themes and Ideas. It lets me interact with the text and make my own interpretations of it. On the other hand, I dislike the ideas of complexity of literary analysis since it can be hard to determine what is right or wrong when interpreting the text. Moving forward, in my strengths and weaknesses with writing literature, I have strengths in the ableness to interpret literary devices such as symbolism, imagery, and metaphors. Regardless, I tend to struggle with building my essays in structured manner, which sometimes make my paragraphs to sound rushed and not being able to work with my thesis. I really want to use this class to build upon the skills that I already have when it comes to writing and be able to interpret text better and put my ideas down on paper.
