The values, attitude, perception, and behavior of an individual says a lot about that person not only from a personal standpoint, but from a professional one as well. These factors are all interlinked to each other and aids in creating a picture about a person. Values are principles, standards, or qualities that an individual or group of people hold in high regard. These values guide the way we live our lives and the decisions we make. A value is commonly formed by a particular belief that is related to the worth of an idea or type of behavior (Personal Values, Beliefs, and attitudes, n.d.). An individual’s “values” can have an influence on his/her attitude towards work and others. Since a person’s value stems from a variety of sources it can sometimes be difficult to say whether it may result in a positive or negative impact. For instance, if a person does not have a high value for fashion and is working in the corporate world or a banking institution, where high value is given to work attire and trendiness, it may be hard for them to adapt to having to dress up everyday which in turn could trigger a series of emotions which can negatively affect their attitude in the workplace and their sense of belonging. They may view an employee who loves to be fashionable and trendy as conceited, snobbish, or a distraction in the workplace.
