ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY
Smartphones actually help the learning process. Do you agree?
In this modern era, almost everyone owns a smartphone. With a smartphone, people
can easily access the unlimited amount of knowledge stored in the internet by just pressing a
few buttons on the screen. Personally, I feel that smartphones actually help the learning
process and help people to be more knowledgeable, however, there are some who believe
that smartphones cause the opposite effect instead.
People who own a smartphone often carry them by their side all the time, and
whenever they face something that they do not understand, they can easily take out their
smartphones and just look it up using a search engine. For example, while in a foreign
country, people who have difficulty speaking the foreign language can use their smartphones
to access the internet and learn more about the foreign language anywhere and anytime. To
summarise, smartphones have given people more accessibility to more knowledge, and
unlike using books to find information, people can gain instant access to the information they
seek.
Some people argue that smartphones are a huge distraction, causing students to be
distracted from their main objective and disrupting their learning process, however, i do not
think that is the case. I believe that the smartphones are not being a distraction, and instead,
the smartphones are actually improving the students’ mood by allowing the students to
escape the harsh reality and find refuge in the world of the internet where they can forget
about the sufferings from real world and calm themselves down so that they can be more
motivated to complete their objectives later. Furthermore, when people have too many things
going on in their mind and they cannot be productive due to this, they can just surf the
internet on their smartphones and relax in order to refresh their mind.
Although smartphones are known to be very addictive, especially with the
exponential growth of the popularity of social media, smartphones help the learning process
by allowing students to access the internet and attend online classes during the season
of the Covid-19 catastrophe. When all the schools were closed, students could not attend
school and had to stay at home. Students who did not own any computers or laptops were
not able to attend the online classes, but smartphones changed that. As almost everyone
owns a smartphone, students without computers and laptops were still able to attend online
classes with the help of smartphones.
In conclusion, one of humanity’s greatest inventions, smartphones, allowed people to
be able to gain instant access to unlimited knowledge through the internet, relax and refresh
their minds, and also to attend school even during the Covid-19 calamity. I absolutely agree
that smartphones actually help the learning process, and with our technology constantly
improving, smartphones will just keep getting better with more functions.
