As-Salamualykum Name: Danyal Bhat Roll no. 06 Presention Topic: Right To Life, Dignity & Privacy. Submitted To: Dr. Naseem gul Human Rights In Islam Danyal Bhat What are Human Rights? • Human rights are the basic rights and freedom that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death. • The rights you have simply beacause you are a human being. Difference between Human Rights in Islam & In the West. Human Rights In Islam Human Rights In West • According to the Islamic claim Almighty Allah has only granted the human rights to human being due to honour and dignity. • Another important difference is that in Islam the sources of human rights is divine revelation (Wahi) • West the source of human rights is human mind and experience. The Islamic Approach • The second point which I would like to clarify at the very outset is that when we speak of human rights in Islam we really mean that these rights have been granted by Allah; they have not been granted by any king or by any legislative assembly. The Fundamental Human Rights: An Islamic Perspective These ten rights will be based mainly on the two major Islamic sources, namely, the Holy Qur'an (the Holy book in Islam) and Hadith (the sayings and deeds of the prophet of Islam.). These rights are as follows: (1)The Right to Life. (2)The Right to Live in Dignity. (3)The Right to Privacy. (4) The Right to Justice. (5)The Right to Equal Protection of the Law. (6)The Right of Choice. (7)The Right of Free Expression. (8)The Right of Property. (9)The Right to Basic Necessities of Life. (10) The Right to Revolt. Right to life in islam: • The right to life is the most basic of human rights and an essential foundation for all others. The protection and sanctity of life is a nonnegotiable principle because it is the pillar of civilization. In Islam, the sanctity of life is an inherent right for every human being because life is a God-given gift and a manifestation of His divine grace. Since God is the Creator and Grantor of life, any kind of aggression or violation of this right is considered a crime and a transgression against the rights of both God and man. Quranic verses Related to (R.T.L) • The first and the foremost basic right is the right to live and respect human life. The Holy Quran lays down: • Whosoever kills a human being without (any reason like) man slaughter, or corruption on earth, it is as though he had killed all mankind ... (5:32) • If anyone has murdered a human being, it is as if he has slain the entire human race. These instructions have been repeated in the Holy Quran in another place saying: ُ َّک ۡم ِبٖ لَََل ُ ّٰ ُ قؕ ٰذ ِل • ﴾۱۵۱ ََک ۡم تََۡ ِقلُ ۡو ک ۡم َو ہ س الَّتِ ۡی َح َّر َم ہ َ َو ََل ت َ ۡقتُلُوا النَّ ۡف.... ِ ّٰللاُ اِ ََّل بِ ۡال َح • Do not kill a soul which Allah has made sacred except through the due process of law ... (6:151) Right To Dignity In Islam Human Dignity In Islam • The concept of human dignity is the belief that all people hold a special value that’s tied solely to their humanity. It has nothing to do with their class, race, gender, religion, abilities, or any other factor other than them being human. • The Verse of Dignity: • " ولقد کرمنا بنی آدم وحملناهم فی البر و البحر و رزقناهم مَ الطيباب وفضلناهم علی کثير ممَ خلقنا "تفضيال • "Certainly we gave dignity the Children of Adam, and carried them over land and sea, and provided them with all the good things, and given them an advantage over many of those We have created with a complete preference. (Q.17:70) • The second important right is the right of the citizens to the protection of their honour. In the address delivered on the occasion of the Farewell Hajj, the Prophet did not only prohibit the life and property of the Muslims to one another, but also any encroachment upon their honour, respect and chastity were forbidden to one another. The Holy Quran clearly lays down: (a) "You who believe, do not let one (set of) people make fun of another set. (b) Do not defame one another. (c) Do not insult by using nicknames. Quranic Verses Related to (R.T.D) • Human being that is meant by Islam is a character that in addition to his physical and bodily dimensions has a spiritual and divine dimension to which from the spirit of God is blown. ﴾۲۹ ََ• َف ِا َذا سَ َّو ۡيتُ ٖٗ َو نَ َف ۡختُ فِ ۡي ِٖ ِم َۡ ُّر ۡو ِح ۡی َف َقَ ُ ۡوا َل ٖٗ ٰس ِِجد ِۡي • When I have shaped him and ran my created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him. (Quran, 15:29) • The great Quran expresses human being’s superiority over other beings in this way that: ير ِم َّم َْ َخ َل ْقنَا ِ • َو َل َق ْد َك َّر ْمنَا بَنِي آ َدمَ َو َح َم ْلنَا ُه ْم فِي ْالب َ ِر َو ْالب َ ْح ِر َو َرزَ ْقنَا ُه ْم ِمََ ال َّطيِبَا َّ ت َو َف ٍ ِض ْلنَا ُه ْم عَ َل ٰى َكث ض ًيال ِ تَ ْف • We have honored the children of Adam and carried them on both land and sea. We have provided them with good things and greatly preferred them above much of our creation. (Quran, 17:70) Right To Privacy In Islam • The right to privacy, freedom, dignity and equality are granted in Islam. The right to privacy includes, the right of individual to be left alone to live his/her private life, the rightto be free from governmental surveillance and intrusion. • Islam gives great importance to the fundamental human right to privacy. This is evident from the some of the verses of the Holy Quran: Quranic Verses • Do not spy on one another’ (49:12) • ‘Do not enter any houses except your own homes unless you are sure of their occupants' consent’ (24:27). • ‘O believers! Enter not the houses other than your own, until you take permission and salute the residents thereof. This is better for you, haply you may be heedful. (Al Nur:27 The Right To Privacy In Sunnah: • There are also authentic records of instances that have occurred during the life of the Prophet (Peace be on Him) as well as instructions issued by him that set a guiding framework with reference to ensuring the privacy of individuals in their homes. • “It is reported that a man came to see the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be on Him) and sought permission for entry while standing just in front of the door. The Prophet (Peace be on Him) said to him; ‘Stand aside’: The purpose of the Commandment for seeking permission is to prevent casting of looks inside the house”. Conclusion:• To conclude it can be said that the islamic concept of human rights is comphrehensive and compact in that it has proportion and balance between right and duties. Islam has given different roles and duties to every human being and human being has to make possible ways to fullfill those roles and duties. As I mentioned in the beginning of this presentation that Islam respect a human for being a human not for any other reason; Islam doesnot distinguish between two races. All are equal in the sight of Allah. References:1. Mohammed Berween, ‘’The fundamental Human Rights: An Islamic Perspective ‘’, The International Journal Of Human Rights,2002. 2.
