PHILIPPINE INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2022 CASE BRIEF Note: Dates are subject to change. MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM Dear participant, It is with great pleasure that we have you as part of the third launch of the Philippine Innovation Challenge in the COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst the resurfacing challenges like the quarantine restrictions that forced companies to shift into a virtual workplace, the pandemic did not hamper people from innovating and transforming. In this era of digitization and explorations of how people interact beyond the realms of physical boundaries, the Philippines is expected to be catapulted into a multiverse of innovative possibilities. You are one step forward to becoming the epitome of Web 3.0. Every successful pitch begins with a single idea! We are waiting for that blastoff! Sincerely, PIC 2022 Team RECENT TRENDS P H I L I P P I N E I N N O V A T I O N C H A L L E N G E 2 0 2 2 THE MULTIVERSE OF CAPABILITIES LOCKDOWNS & MOBILITY With the recent press releases on the increasing mobility and transition of most of the regions to Alert Level 1, foot traffic is expected in the next months. This projects significant shifts to the PH consumption and spending. E-COMMERCE BOOM PH has seen massive growth in the ecommerce industry, especially in the last five years — but has exponentially propelled last 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Growth will be higher by 2025, amounting to $12 billion. FINTECH ADOPTION Consumption of digital financial services, subscriptions to work-fromhome engagements, and frictionless shopping are primarily due to the lockdown restrictions. Such trend is intended to advance to virtual payment channels and alternatives. THE MULTIVERSE OF CAPABILITIES NFTs AND USED CASES PH ranked first for non-fungible token (NFT) ownership out of 20 countries, with 32% of Filipino internet users saying that they own NFTs, according to an online survey released last November 2021 (Business World, 2021). METAVERSE Meta, which is owned by Zuckerberg, claims an untapped potential on PH's Metaverse where people can meet, talk, and perform their businesses in a virtual space. Such an opportunity can lead to Web 3,0 integration, employee upskilling, and data upgrades. CRYPTOCURRENCIES With popular cryptocurrency platforms like Binance and PDAX, crypto enthusiasts, fintech companies, and the Department of Finance are expected to form economic incentives that can lead to policy compromise and legalization.
