Key Concept.. Lesson 17 SAYIIN NG NO Integrity to say no “BE YOURSELF. WHO ELSE IS BETTER QUALIFIED?” - FRANK J. GIBLIN II, AUTHOR HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST encourages us to say no to things that are not important and yes to things that are important. Although it may be difficult at first, having the integrity to say no is an essential leadership skill. Practice saying no using the STOP-AND-THINK CHART. STOP-AND-THINK CHART Example: Your friend calls and wants to talk about a new movie, but your aunt is visiting. STOP AND THINK Example: “Sorry, I can’t talk. My aunt is here. Let’s talk at lunch tomorrow.” You have a big speech on Friday. Your sister put off her project and wants you to help her Thursday night. You want to go to an Art Club meeting, but your friends want you to go shopping—again! Your best friend wants you to do something you don’t think is right. 42 HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST © Franklin Covey Co. But now we spend all our time together and we’ve drifted away from our friends. I miss hanging out with the guys. Each time she makes plans, I want to say no, but I keep saying yes.” Write three ways to show integrity to important things by saying no to unimportant things. 1. 2. 3. © Franklin Covey Co.
