Problem Solving Method
Be sure to follow these steps when solving problems. This method will guide you in
clearly setting up the problem for ease of solving. Do not just mentally note these steps;
instead include steps #2 - 5 directly on your work.
1. Carefully read problem
2. What is the problem asking to find or solve for?
Find: Label using appropriate variables and units
3. What information is given, known or assumed?
Given: Label using appropriate variables and units
Include all clearly labeled figures
4. Select an appropriate equation
EQ: Give before substituting in numbers, in variable form
5. Solve: show all work and include all units. Circle final answers
6. Check work, is the answer reasonable?
