Experiment: The effect of exercise on the pulse rate. Name: _____________________________________ Date: ________________ Grade & class: 9 E____ /20 In this experiment you will investigate how exercise affects our pulse rates. Work in groups of two as allocated by your teacher. Apparatus: Timing devise (cell phone or tablet) Method: Each person must measure their heart rate (pulse) at the start of the experiment. The other person must record results. This is your baseline or resting heart rate. See the diagram below on how to measure your pulse. Time for 15 seconds and multiply by 4 to get beats per minute. One person must run on the spot for 1 min. Measure and record the pulse rate directly after exercise then again after 1, 2, 3, 4 minutes. Fill the results in on the table below. Repeat with the other learner doing the exercise. Answer the questions while you are waiting to take your next reading. Results: Heading: ___________________________________________________________ 1 (2) Time (min) Person 1 = Pulse in beats per min Person 2 = Pulse in beats per min -1 min before exercise 0 min directly after exercise 1 min after exercise 2 min after exercise 3 min after exercise 4 min after exercise (3) Graph: Plot the results on a line graph below. Use a different colour for each person.
