Evaluation criteria portfolio
Application MA Architecture TUM
The portfolio is often decisive for the success of the application. In the first stage of the aptitude
test, half of the points go to the portfolio and the other half to the final grade. A total of 30 points
can be achieved for the portfolio. The portfolio is submitted digitally as a PDF document (max. 15
pages, 20 MB, DINA4) and evaluated.
What is rated?
The assessment is twofold. On the one hand, the execution of the projects presented is evaluated,
on the other hand, the selection, identification and design of the portfolio. Taken together, both
aspects of the assessment show the qualification for the Master’s course.
1. Evaluation of the content of the work (max. 20 points)
- Is knowledge and the breadth of the bachelor's program shown? This involves design, urban
development, constructive, creative and theoretical knowledge.
This expertise can also be demonstrated in private work or in the office.
- Are particularly relevant projects highlighted for the application? If a focus is selected in the
application, is this clear in the selection of the projects? Specifying a focus is voluntary, no
points are deducted for applications without a focus.
- Do the projects meet high technical requirements? Is there complexity and understanding
for the design tasks?
- Are good ideas developed, design tools used and learned knowledge and methods applied?
Are there scientific approaches to the debate?
- Are different levels of scale and representation techniques shown?
2. Presentation and design of the portfolio (max. 10 points) a)
Range and identification - Is the range and selection of the
selected work reasonable?
- Are the specified number of pages (15 pages, title page and table of contents not counted)
adhered to?
- Are the works shown correctly marked? (Place of origin BA studies, office or own execution,
own role, persons involved, group or individual work) b) Means of presentation - Have
suitable means of presentation been chosen in order to convey questions, content and
structure in a practical, clear and understandable way?
- Do the representations have a high aesthetic and technical quality?
- Does the ability to express yourself in language become evident from the texts? Texts can
also be written in English.
The portfolio is evaluated independently by two committee members. The evaluation is averaged.
