Tiyaking maipapasa ito sa petsa at oras na itinakda ng kanyang gurong-tagapayo. 3 Introductory Message For the learner: This module aims the learners to understand the importance of guidance from parents or guardians and significant others in choosing a profession, vocation and future plans It is composed of two parts, one part for week 1 and one part for week 2. You will write the activities in a journal notebook or a piece of paper to be submitted to your adviser which will be included in your portfolio. This self-learning module has six interactive tasks, which are as follows: Let’s Try This – which will help you to get ready to learn; Let’s Explore This – which will guide you towards what you need to learn; Keep in Mind – which will give you the lessons that you need to learn and understand; You Can Do It – which will help you apply the lessons learned in daily activities; What I Have learned – which will test and evaluate your learning; and Share Your Thoughts and Feelings – which will help you express your thoughts, opinions and feelings. Stay safe and healthy! 4 MODULE 8 MY LIFE’S RAINBOW Learning Objectives At the end of the session, you are expected to: 1. identify the significant people who could be of help in career planning; 2. explain the different Senior High School Tracks & Curriculum Exits; and 3. value personal abilities and experiences relevant to career planning. Period: Weeks 6 and 7 of 2nd Quarter Suggested Total Time Allotment: 120 Minutes Materials Needed: Clean sheets of paper/bond paper, pencil/ballpen, crayons or any coloring materials Introduction In this module, you will be guided to relate your choice of profession to your skills and interests and realize the roles of your parents/guardians and significant adults. This two-week activity also aims to assist you to have basic understanding of what Career Planning is. This is essential as it will guide you in preparing for your future career. Enjoy doing the activities and discover the right path to your future. 5 Let’s Try This Suggested Time Allotment: 20 minutes Me and My Rainbow Use a clean sheet of paper for your outputs in this activity 1. Using your crayons or any coloring material, draw a rainbow. 2. On the 1st & 2nd bows (Red and Orange), write the names of your immediate family members who influence you in your studies (mother, father or sibling/s) 3. On the 3rd & 4th bows (Yellow and Green), write at least three (3) adult relatives who are close to you (ex: grandparents, uncle, aunt, cousins). 4. On the 5th and 6th (Blue & Indigo) bows write at least three (3) adults whom you look up to but are not biologically related to you (ex: godparents, teachers, neighbors, family friends, church or community members, and others). 5. On the 7th bow (violet) write at least three (3) people whom you haven’t met personally but you admire most (ex: celebrities, heroes, government officials, and others). 6. Write your name at the bottom part of your rainbow. Processing Questions: 1. Do you see anything common in the professions of the people you listed? 2. Among the professions of the people you listed, which interests you the most? Why? 3. Is there anyone among them who inspires you to follow his/her path? Let’s Explore This Suggested Time Allotment: 25 Minutes On a clean sheet of paper, copy and complete the table below. Write at least 5 interests and abilities that you have on the first and second columns. On the third column, write the people who can help you to develop these interests and abilities. Why or why not? 7 Keep in Mind Suggested Time Allotment: 20 Minutes Significant Persons in Life A child's development is influenced by the different people he/she deals with everyday. The level of interaction varies depending on the proximity and time spent with the people around him/her. The rainbow in your life represents the people around you. Those who are closest to you in terms of proximity are your immediate family members. They are the ones you live with and have close interaction to. The other people in your rainbow are the ones you have interaction with but don't live with you, are not related to you or you only see or hear from them through the media. Usually, your immediate family members, most importantly your parents, are the primary people who make a major influence in your life when it comes to career development and career decision-making. You consider them as very important that's why they become influential to you. In some cases, those who influence you may not be your immediate family members but other people whom you look up to or admire because of what they have done or what they have taught you. These people whom you consider significant become your inspiration as you plan out your own life especially in choosing the right career. In terms of career pathing, the following are some information about Senior High School and curriculum exits. 8 K to 12 Curriculum Exits: Higher Education (KOLEHIYO) Employment (TRABAHO) Entrepreneurship (NEGOSYO) Middle Level Skills Development 1. Higher Education school. - pursued Tertiary (College) Education after Senior High 2. Employment - Employed/ works after Senior high school. 3. Entrepreneurship - put up his/her business after Senior high school. 4. Middle Level Skills Development - pursued further training and earned National Competency Certificate from Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and others. You Can Do It! Suggested Time Allotment: 25 minutes Choose one person from among the people who can help you develop your skills and interests. Write him/her a letter asking for some advice or tips on how you can further develop your skills and interests. Ask for some encouraging points to keep you motivated in pursuing your career.
