Section 2: THE PRESENTATION – 20%
Effectively communicating accurate and relevant advice is essential for accountants. To help develop these skills,
students are required to prepare a presentation on particular accounting standards and/or financial data and
deliver it during a tutorial class.
➢
Presentation Allocations: Each Topic (from Topic 3 onwards) will have three presentation questions available
for allocation (Question A, B and C). Each student will allocate one presentation question in Tutorial 1 (Week
2). Prior to Tutorial 1, choose a few topics you would like to present if you do not get your first preference.
Topics, their respective weeks and due dates can be found in Section 5.
➢
Question Availability: The presentation questions will be provided on Blackboard. (See Section 5 for release
dates).
➢
Written Requirements: Two (2) written components must be submitted as part of the Presentation.
1.
2.
A full copy of the presentation speech using the Word template provided. Word limit is an approximate
only. The number of words should reflect the number of words needed for each students 5-to-7minute presentation.
The powerpoint slides that will be used for the presentation. These slides can be in any design
appropriate for the presentation however, there is a limit of 10 powerpoint slides that are allowed.
Important:
•
Both written submissions must be submitted through the separate submission Turnitin Links on
Blackboard by Wednesday 23:59 pm two days prior to the presentation. (Due dates have been
provided for each topic in Section 5).
•
These written submissions should reflect the actual presentation speech and powerpoints that will be
used. This means you should not make any changes to your speech or your powerpoints after you have
submitted them on Wednesday instead, the time can be used to practice your presentation skills.
•
Both of these submissions can ONLY be submitted ONCE therefore, your submitted version is final.
•
No extensions are permitted for this assessment (see Section 4).
➢
Speaking Requirements: Students will present their five (5) to seven (7) minutes presentation to the class
during their enrolled tutorial. The presentations will be in the order of questions, starting with question A,
question B, and then question C.
•
•
Internal Students (Face-to-Face Tutorials): Each student will need to bring a copy of their powerpoint
slides on a USB to show them during their presentation. Students should be standing when presenting
and maintain eye contact with the class. Students should not be reading word for word from a script.
Online students (Blackboard Collaborate Tutorials): Each student will need to upload their
PowerPoints to Blackboard Collaborate before the beginning of the tutorial. Collaborate sessions open

15 minutes prior to the start of the tutorial. Students should arrive at least five minutes before the
start of their tutorial to upload their slides and ensure their video and audio are working. Students
should be standing when presenting, be clearly seen (not just their face) and maintain eye contact with
the camera to engage with the class. Students should not be reading word for word from a script not
visible on camera. A recorded demonstration is available in the Assessment 1 Folder that goes through
how to set up a presentation in Collaborate Ultra. Students are welcome to use the “Company
Accounting – Course Room” at any time to set up their camera and microphone and get familiar with
using Collaborate Ultra.
➢
Guidance: Presentations should integrate higher-order thinking. They should have an appropriate
introduction, identify the key aspects of the question, identify any relevant theory that applies to it, and draw
an insightful conclusion. If students are unclear about any aspects, they should discuss them with their tutor.
The topic two lecture will also guide students on how to present and reflect effectively.
➢
Assessment Criteria: Presentations will be marked using the criteria sheet (a copy is available on the final
page of this guide). Marks will be awarded on the quality of the content and the communication of the
presentation.
➢
Marks and Feedback: All students will be provided with immediate feedback on their content by their tutor.
Results will be provided within two weeks through Grade Centre on Blackboard.
Section 3: THE REFLECTION – 5%
Self-reflection is an important skill identified by the accounting profession. Accordingly, this assessment includes
marks for students’ reflection on their presentation. Following the presentations, students will reflect on their
performance in relation to their communication and presentation as well as their content.
➢
Written Requirements:
•
A one-page reflection worksheet (200-300 words) is required to be submitted to Turnitin via Blackboard
within 24-hours of the end of students’ enrolled tutorial time. For example, if you presented in your
enrolled Friday 11 am-12:30 pm tutorial, your self-reflection must be submitted by Saturday 12:30 pm.
•
Students must use the reflection worksheet provided and respond to two questions.
•
Important: No extensions are permitted for this assessment (see Section 4).
➢
Assessment Criteria: Assessment by the tutor will be based on the quality/depth of students’ reflections,
including areas they are reflecting on and why these are important/what impact they had on the
presentation.
➢
Marks: Marks will be provided within two weeks through Grade Centre on Blackboard. See the criteria sheet
for more details.
