Although the trip westward from Europe to the east via the Strait of Magellan had been discovered and mapped, the journey was too long and dangerous to become a practical route to the Spice Islands. Nevertheless, European geographic knowledge was expanded immeasurably by Magellan’s expedition. He found not only a massive ocean, hitherto unknown to Europeans, but he also discovered that the earth was much larger than previously thought. Finally, although it was no longer believed that the earth was flat at this stage in history, Magellan’s circumnavigation of the globe empirically discredited the medieval theory conclusively. Proving a point and showing facts are true and unavoidable experience where in Magellan gave his best to prove a point that take him to one great voyage that took 200 plus crew with people that they take or capture had made a big impact in the expedition that at the end of journey he did not make it but for his crew ( ship went to Spain) had continued the mission to prove a point. the journey takes a big risk that not knowing the outcome of going forward to a uncertain places that take some of the lives of the crew until misunderstanding came in place that became tragic. The discovery of two straight line that leads to southeast and southwest are the big factors for them to go back to Spain. Along their way they see an opening strait the river of sardines until the wide spread of disease that took some of the lives to the point that they survive and write their journey that proving earth is not flat, that when you go west u met east along the way so in other words the earth is round. Additional Thought: The expedition reached the Philippines. To the crew’s surprise, Enrique, an enslaved man Magellan had purchased before the journey, could understand, and speak the indigenous people’s language. It turned out he was likely raised there before his enslavement, making him, not Magellan, the first person to circumnavigate the globe. Although Magellan did not live to complete the journey, his crew continued and eventually became the first to circumnavigate the Earth. Magellan's voyage was a major milestone in the Age of Exploration and contributed greatly to our understanding of the world's geography. Overall, Ferdinand Magellan was a daring and ambitious explorer whose legacy continues to be celebrated today.
