DONNING A SCBA
1. Inspect Gear
a. Look at the hose, check for cracks and tears.
b. Check the frame, ensure it isn’t bent or dented.
c. Check the straps, look for fraying and cuts.
d. Check bottles for defects, specifically dents or leaks.
e. Check regulator, ensure flow to regulator and functioning purge valve.
f. Check mask, ensure seal and check straps and rubber materials.
g. Check electronics, such as lights on you gauge.
2. Insert bottle into frame and connect the bottles valve with the threaded end of the hose to the
regulator. Ensure there are no leaks and that the purge valve is off.
3. Loosen all straps.
4. Get in your turn out gear with hood pulled down around neck.
5. Ensure tank is on and regulator is closed.
6. Swing SCBA system onto your back.
7. Tighten vertical straps first to pull the SCB System higher onto you back.
8. Tighten waist strap to hold the eight on your hips.
9. Put Mask on and ensure seal by placing hand over the regulator hole temporarily and breathing
in. the mask should suck to your face.
10. Pull flash hood around seal of mask.
11. Put regulator in mask hole with purge valve facing up and rotate the valve to your left.
12. Breathe easy.
