FS2 Episode 1 Analyze 1. Fromm the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the TEDx videos that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess? Great teachers never stop learning, according to the four career stages of teachers in the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPSTs). After receiving the necessary qualification, the next step is to progress from being a proficient to a very proficient teacher. According to the frameworks offered by the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards, a great teacher consistently improves as a teacher while also knowing and understanding what to teach, assisting students in learning, engaging with the community, and more. By choosing to become a teacher, one is also choosing to take on a bigger responsibility outside of the classroom. According to the video I watched, a great teacher has a deep grasp of their students. They do have good listening skills, which are essential for changing education and schools. Furthermore, good teachers can bring out the best in their students. They have this profound understanding and the capacity to look beyond the challenges that their students are facing. Every student is guided so that they can comprehend their value, purpose, and destiny, all of which can have a big impact on the decisions they make in the future. 2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies? No, the skills I mentioned above are not exclusive to professional skills. To succeed in the classroom and with students, teachers need to possess a certain set of personality traits. It is essential to communicate proper knowledge to students because they strongly rely on what their teachers are teaching them. But in order to develop better relationships in the classroom and in the greater community to which they belong, a teacher's character qualities are crucial. In a classroom with a variety of ability levels and backgrounds, it is essential for a teacher to make every attempt to completely comprehend each of their pupils in order to encourage them as they progress academically. 3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute, and report grades? Explain your answer. Being a successful teacher, in my opinion, needs more than just having a professional education. Managing a class, planning, and executing courses, evaluating student learning, calculating grades, and reporting them are all part of a teacher's duties. Just completing this task serves as proof that he was doing his job. A great teacher must possess the personal trait of being a good listener because, in order to help and inspire their pupils to improve, they must first understand their needs and where they are in their academic journeys. 4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important- personal qualities or professional competencies? They both have equal importance. A knowledgeable instructor who is unable to communicate is useless. A good communicator who is ignorant about the subject is also of no service. A teacher needs to possess both professional and personal qualities. Without both, a teacher cannot, in my opinion, be called to as great. Certain personal attributes, such excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, are required for a teacher to understand the needs of the students and for the students to feel free to approach the teacher. 5. Who are the teachers we remember most? Most of us remember being transformed rather than being taught. We think back on the teachers who encouraged us to develop this aspect without teaching a single lesson in a classroom, transformation through time. Memorable teachers all share one thing in common: they are purposeful about the influence they want to have. This is true even though each teacher has a distinctive teaching style, a passion for a particular subject, and a range of life experiences. These educators have long-term perspectives and stay away from the nitty-gritty. They accept their students for who they are today and help them comprehend their potential as humans after they leave school. Reflect Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in? - I could be understanding and personable as a person. As the saying goes, "patience is a virtue," and instructors are no exception. Working with children can be challenging, so being personable is crucial. I love being a teacher and all the responsibilities that come with it, and I am also energetic and versatile. If students can perceive the teacher's excitement for their lessons, they will learn more and work more at their academics. I am also disciplined, sensitive, and have excellent listening abilities. I am conscious that I need to work on several character defects, like effective communication abilities. Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating? - It is essential that I can establish a safe and supportive learning environment. I know how to choose and create educational resources that can be used with students of different skill levels. This is consistent with my experience employing a variety of teaching methods to help my students, who have a variety of learning preferences, understand, and stay interested in what they are studying. I am aware that I am also capable of assessing and figuring out what my students' needs are. To improve the school's reputation and the quality of its instruction while also fostering a safe and productive learning environment for all its students. In which competencies do I need to develop more? - My technical and digital abilities need the most improvement because, as we all know, modernization calls for us to be satisfied with the knowledge we already possess in order to provide learners with better education. Modern children have grown up surrounded by digital technology, and these skills will be essential during a pandemic. I should undergo a big digital transformation in order to be able to meet the needs of the young generation and their technologically oriented future. I need to expand my knowledge and skills in these areas due to the rapid and abrupt changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed upon schools and education. Who are the teachers that we remember most? - We also think of the teachers who taught you that excellent things take time, so keep up the good work. Teachers who will aid you in realizing that you need to be more resilient because life is difficult right now and always. a teacher who never gives up on their weak or defenseless students. They typically claim that grades do not reflect intelligence and that the true struggle starts after graduation. They are cool, smart, and encouraging without even trying. If you are willing to get back up after falling, they'll comfort you that it's okay. a professor that encourages students to always go after their aspirations and recognize their personal goals. Write Action Research Prompts 1. Observe In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as positive attitude, sense of humor, personal touch, and being kind and sympathetic and professional competencies like performance and communication delivery were least/ not displayed and as a result, students were/ class was impacting the kids' performance. 2. Reflect The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in #1) may be caused by poor academic achievement among students may have an impact on their development and growth. 3. Plan I would like to address this problem (mentioned in #2) by conducting action research on a mechanism for enhancing teacher competency and classroom practice is presented in a paper discussion session from the American Educational Research Association (AERA), which I believe will be very helpful in resolving this issue. 4. Act a. The main objective of my action research is to develop a deeper understanding of what happens in a classroom or school and what can be done to help teachers and students learn more effectively. b. My specific research question are: to improve people's mental abilities, sense of efficacy, desire to share and communicate, and attitudes toward change. c. To answer my specific research question, I want to build a simple, repeatable iterative learning, evaluation, and improvement approach to support schools and teachers in producing results that are always improving. Work on my Artifacts Attach your reflection here. One of the most prestigious professions one may pursue is teaching. The impact of a teacher on a student's life might be highly positive or very negative. Even if it sounds cliche, one of the few professions that directly influence the destiny of our country is teaching. You might even have more of an influence on children' lives than some of their parents. You spend countless hours with your students, unlike parents who are busy or preoccupied with their work. The benefits of becoming an educator include the ability to effectively alter lives in a single year, having a successful personal or family life, and being able to assess students' potential.
