Who do you think is most responsible for this situation and why?
I would say Jay is at most responsible for this situation. He kept pushing Bob, because he
believes that Bob thrives well under pressure, which I have no room to agree or disagree, but
constantly putting him under pressure is not a good idea. He also did not properly communicate
with Annette about her idea, and ended up letting her propose a horrible idea that would be very
detrimental to the company.
How were the different personalities and emotional intelligence of Bob and Annette a factor in
their conflict?
Bob is not a very emotionally intelligent person, but he is a very good worker. Even the CEO
called him the best manager in the company. He seems to be a man that works well under
pressure, but given too much pressure, he will crack. However, he doesn’t seem to be the very
communicative type. Annette on the other hand seems to be more emotionally intelligent, but
didn’t fully understand the company when she proposed such a large idea without talking it out
with the other managers.
As the CEO, what should Jay have done to prevent this situation from occurring and what should
he do now so that Bob, Annette and the entire organization understand what are acceptable and
unacceptable behaviors?
Jay should’ve started by telling Annette that her idea was not a very beneficial one to the
company. She is still new, and needs to be told right and wrong. Now that it is too late to correct
his mistake, Jay is put in a much harder situation. He needs to start off by severely reprimanding
Bob, as his behavior was unacceptable. However, Jay should not go as far as to let him go, as he
is the star of the company. Next, he needs to speak with Annette, and tell her that her idea was
not a good one for the company. He needs to be more vocal on his feedback to Annette, so she
can understand the company better.
