Cereal Box Theatre Project
WHAT YOU NEED
● Two similar size cereal boxes
● Scissors
● Glue sticks
● Hot glue guns and hot glue
● Coloring pencils, magic markers, crayons.
● Craft Paper
OBJECTIVE: To create a proscenium stage to demonstrate knowledge of the parts and areas of a
proscenium stage.
GRADE: You will be graded on the following:
A.
Demonstrating knowledge of the parts and areas of a proscenium stage.
B.
Correctly labeling the required parts and areas of a proscenium stage.
C.
Carefully creating a proscenium stage model crafted with care.
D.
Following these directions to build a Cereal Box Proscenium Stage
Model!!
EXTRA EFFORT/CREDIT for making your proscenium stage by coloring the
stage floor, creating a ground row upstage at the back of the stage floor, covering
the top and sides of your model with construction paper, working neatly, cleaning up your
mess, and doing an overall superior job.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING A CEREAL BOX THEATRE
1.
Choose two similar size cereal boxes.
2.
As a group decide what type of proscenium stage you want to make.

CEREAL BOX #1 INSTRUCTIONS (PROSCENIUM ARCH
BOX)
Measure 1 ½” or 1 “ (depending on how big your boxes are) around two sides and the top of
the cereal box and draw a line on the box.
A.
Using scissors carefully cut along the lines you drew to cut an opening in
the cereal box.
B.
DO NOT CUT THE BOTTOM OF THE FLAP OFF THE BOX.
C.
Fold the flap down to form the apron of the stage.
Draw on the flap to make an apron.
A.
The apron may be rectangular or circular.
B.
Carefully cut the apron from the tab on the box.
Measure 1 ½” around the other side of the cereal box and cut an opening on the other side of
the cereal box.
A.
This tab will make the stage floor of your theatre.
Design a proscenium: color, cut out, and glue the pieces to the front of the cereal box.

CEREAL BOX #2 INSTRUCTIONS (Stage floor and fly space)
Measure 1 ½” or 1 “ (depending on how big your boxes are) around two sides and
the top of the cereal box and draw a line on the box.
A.
Using scissors carefully cut along the lines you drew to cut an opening in
the cereal box for the cereal box.
B.
DO NOT CUT THE BOTTOM OF THE FLAP OFF THE BOX.
C.
Fold the flap down to form the fly space/roof of your theatre.
Make a backdrop for your theatre.
A.
Choose one of the backdrops choices and color or design your own
backdrop for your stage.
B.
After finishing the backdrop, glue it to the back of the cereal box.
Make one set of curtains to hang from the fly space at center stage (CS) on both
the SR and SL side of the stage model out of construction paper.
A.
Attach the curtains to the fly space (top of the cereal box) with glue.

Before attaching the two cereal boxes together, draw and label the following areas on the
theatre model. Note most of this is going to go on cereal box #1, creating the stage floor.

FINAL STEPS
● Carefully use hot glue to attach the two pieces of the stage model together.
● Decorate the top and sides of your proscenium stage model with construction
paper.
● Put the finishing touches on your proscenium stage model as a group.
● Write all of your group names on your model (first and last) and the period.
● When your group is done, bring your finished stage to the teacher for a group
grade.
