Ta’Lyia Edwards 54449882 On January 19, 2021 was the beginning of a new unexpected addition to my family. While at my scheduled appointment, that I have every three months for my birth control shot, I was informed by my doctor that I was pregnant. This is when my life changed. Today was a bit strange. For starters I noticed spotting as if i was starting my period was coming on , which was weird due to the fact that my birth control had completely got rid of my monthly cycles, I had a lot of cramping and i no longer had the energy to do a lot of things I did on the regular day basis . I had a lot of questions for my doctor ! So when it was time for my appointment, the first thing my doctor asked was “ has anything changed?” , “ Do you have any concerns about anything?” I simply answered the questions truthfully and he proceeded to end the conversation with “ let’s get a urine sample , because if you’re pregnant you can’t get your birth control shot today” Which was something I was used to hearing every appointment but this time just didn’t sit right with me . 10 -15 minutes go by and I hear some doctors outside of the door talking about a pregnant patient and how they were going to break the news to her , only to find out that “ her” was me !!! I WAS THE PREGNANT PATIENT ! I was devastated and lost for words. I didn’t know what to think or feel or how I was going to break the news to my mother. My whole life had changed in that moment and my face flooded with tears. I was in disbelief, who knew that my regular check up would be the day I found out that I was pregnant and I would soon be a mother. My doctor had left and came back in the room with discharge papers and said that he would give me a moment to think. Once I left , I got in the car and stared out the window. The whole car ride home was silent and awkward and thoughts of carrying a baby , creating memories , staying up late etc swarmed my brain the entire time. Who knew that my “ regular” check up would turn out to be the day I found out I was pregnant and that nothing would ever be the same. The most shocking, exciting, saddest moment ever ended up being the most memorable day of my life and I would never forget it.
