Role and Purposes
The subject contributes to the achievement of the BBA (Hons) Programme Outcomes
by providing business students with an understanding of the application of technology
and analytics in accounting and finance from the managerial perspective (Outcome 6).
It helps students to identify the opportunities and challenges associated with the
application of latest technology in accounting and finance. It can enhance their ability
to access the impacts (including ethics) of technology on the accounting and financial
industries (Outcome 4 and 5b). It equips them with the ability to communicate new
technologies in business context. Such skills and knowledge help them to make an
immediate contribution to the workplace, and to facilitate the process of continuous
professional development (Outcome 11).
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to:
a) To understand the application of new technology such as Blockchain and Big
Data analytics;
b) To identify the opportunities and challenges that new technology brings to the
accounting and financial industry;
c) To access the business implications of new technology for the accounting and
finance industry and their impacts on markets, institutions and individuals; and
d) To identify the ethical issues associated with the application of new technology
in accounting and finance

Indicative Teaching/Learning Approach
A three-hour seminar will be conducted each week to provide students with a
conceptual framework to understand the application of latest technology in accounting
and finance. Students will be assigned and/or assessed with quizzes, individual
reflective report and group presentation etc. to further develop their critical thinking,
teamwork, and presentation skills. Lectures will incorporate blended learning
approaches, including flipped videos and other appropriate activities in order to create
an active learning environment.
Indicative Assessment Tasks
Assessment components include quiz, group presentation and reflective report. These
assessment components require students to demonstrate their ability in understanding
the application of latest technology and analytics in accounting and finance from the
managerial perspective (Outcome 6) and to access the impacts (including ethics) of
technology on the accounting and financial industries.

Explanation of the appropriateness of the assessment methods in assessing the
intended learning outcomes:

Class participation − Students are required to prepare answers for practice
questions, and actively participate in class discussion.

Final quiz(zes) – Quizzes with compulsory multiple-choice questions or fill-in
bank questions and analytical questions. It/They cover(s) the intended learning
outcomes (a), (b), (c) and (d).

Group presentation – TBA after the add-drop period.

Reflective report – The self-reflective report (between 1500 -2000 words) must be
submitted on or before 7 April 2023 (Friday) noon. In the report, students are
required to report what they have learned from the subject and to identify their
learning gains as well as areas for future improvements. For example, how can
you improve and better equip yourself to stay competitive in job market or society
during the fast-changing technology era? Students are also required to think about
how the new technology will impact or change themselves and society.
