A. Program Title: “LITER” Learners Intensive Training towards
Extensive Reading
Extensive Reading
B. RATIONALE
Extensive reading is an important aspect of any English language
reading program. Extensive reading motivates learners to read large
number of texts on a wide range of topics because the learners themselves
select the reading material based upon its relevance to their interests,
knowledge, and experience. Learner read texts that match their language
level, and they choose the time and place to read. Extensive reading allows
learner to find pleasure in reading as they gain a general understanding of
literary ideas, learn reading strategies, acquire new vocabulary, and
increase their English proficiency.
C. OBJECTIVES
Assist learners at risk to improve their reading skills.
Enhance/develop the reading abilities of slow/non-readers.
Evaluate the improvement of the learners’ reading proficiency.
Equip pupils with necessary reading materials.
Encourage to read for pleasure
D. EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Learners have phonetic mastery and oral fluency
Improved reading performance
Young and independent readers

lessons on highfrequency words from
regular phonics
lessons so that
students know there
are some words that
they should commit
to memory when
reading sentences.
Teach the six syllable
types and have
students break down
longer multisyllabic
words into syllables
and readable chunks.
Explicitly teach
students spelling
patterns and
complement their
reading activity with
spelling tasks.

I. Sustainability Plan
