Concept Note Brief Outline of the Project Women constitute half of the population, yet they remain to be the most marginalized and especially from the vulnerable sections of the society such as SC, ST, OBC and Minorities, who face a multi-level discriminatory behaviour in accessing basic human rights. Social Pride Welfare Society believes that most of these discriminatory actions can be attributed to the limited opportunities they get in education, training, viable employment, healthand social services. We believe that the vulnerability of such a huge chunk of population is hampering the growth potential that the country has. Social Pride Welfare Society (SPWS) directly work with the destitutewomen at the very grassroots who have been the victims of and continue to live in the fear of domestic violence and face discrimination in their day to day lives.SPWS has evolved two tier approachto empower women, wherein firstly, itdirectly provides legal assistance by improving access to local authorities and administration and on the other hand through education, skill trainingsthat enhance self-employment opportunities for better livelihood and dignity. SPWS has identified 500 marginalized womenfrom the Jaitpur village/slum in SouthEast Delhi, who have been facing discrimination and domestic violence as neverending endeavor. Therefore, a project is proposed by SPWS to support these 500 women to ensure life with dignity and sustenance. Social Pride Welfare Society (SPWS) have following objectives through this proposed intervention: 1. Create awareness about the legal remedies available to the victims and survivors of Domestic Violence in the slums of the proposed geography. 2. Provide regular legal assistance to the victims and survivors of Domestic Violence in the slums of the proposed geography. 3. Provide vocational training to the vulnerable women through a proper feedback mechanism to understand the needs of the women. 4. Assist the women to identify the right training and upskilling program so that the women can lead a life with dignity and sustainable livelihood. The concept of basic foundation emerged from the idea of uplifting of the women and children.Mahila Panchayat is an innovative and collective approach of SPWS and Delhi Commission for Women, Delhi Govt. for community participation in dispute redressal. Organization helps women tackle local level legal disputes and assist in reduction and reconciliation of violence against women. Women are being trained on legal issues, dispute redressal mechanism, fundamental laws relevant to discrimination &crimes against women and exposure about the existing legal position regarding property, maintenance, marriage, custodial. They are also given training in counseling, filing an FIR with the local authorities, pursuance with Police & and local institutions for the legal recourse. In the Mahila Panchayat, groups of community women, identified by society, form a group in their area, take up local disputes, counsel the parties, take up the cases with concerned authorities and assist in reducing violence in the locality. The society has successfully solved many cases pertaining to violence against woman. Background:The organization proposes to work with the women from the underprivileged communities who have been the victims of and continue to live under the threat of domestic violence and face discrimination in families and also at the workplace. Social Pride Welfare Society has two tier model of handling the problem, wherein it works on the legal side to provide the administrative support and provide skill & vocational training for the self-employment opportunities as a form of rehabilitation on the other hand. We have the extensive experience of working with the survivors of the domestic violence to facilitate their individual and societal development and inclusive growth. In the same spirit, it proposes to utilize the proposed resources to work for the emancipation of the survivors of the domestic violence women empowerment initiative, we believe that it has the potential of integrating the women with the mainstream of the country and encourage them to lead a positive life by providing them a platform to develop and utilise their skills. Project Objective: SPWS proposes to hold this program with 500 women from the Jaitpur Village in South East Delhi. Jaitpur Village, in the Southeast district of the NCT of Delhi is an urban settlement which has grown by the larger rural-urban migration in the past 15 years. It is habited mainly by the unorganized/migrant laborers from the small villages of Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, Jaitpur is an unauthorized colony, therefore it lacks in basic civic amenities such as drinking water, water &sanitation, and roads connectivity. The combination of the above two factors has made the locality a kind of a slum wherein, the vulnerable sections of the people live in destitute conditions. The situation of women is further worsening in the locality with the frequent cases of women folk using alcohol and frequent cases of domestic violence. The situations created in the households have a major impact on the lives of the children as well. We believe that working with the women and making them self-dependent will go a long way in improving the lives of the families and especially the lives of the children, whose lives could be mainstreamed through the improved lives of their mothers and family. Project Outcome Improved access to rights and constitutional assistance to the destitute. Economic indecencies among the most marginalized women in the community. Sensitized administration and local authorities for gender rights and entitlements. Improved status of 500 women and young girls facing oppression and discrimination in the families. A community profile will be prepared, and community survey would help to understand future course of action with underprivileged women and girls.
